LordZalgo's Permanent Ban Appeal Part 2: Giger's Boogaloo

Post by Zalgo » 16 Jan 2018, 01:47

Your Byond ID: LordZalgo

Character Name: Johnathan Hall

Type Of Ban (Job-ban, Timed Ban, Permaban): Permaban

Admin who banned you (if known): Mordrehel

Total Ban Duration: Permanent

Remaining Duration: Ad Infinitum

What other servers do you play on?: /tg/ mostly, these days.

Are you now or have you been banned on any servers? Which ones?: Yogstation, once. It was resolved pretty quickly.

Reason for ban (If you have a Permaban, it should be the EXACT MESSAGE YOU GET WHEN YOU LOGIN with the Error code that looks like this: X##XXX##. If you do not provide this EXACTLY you can't be unbanned): L10FEB17 - ERP

Link to previous appeals for the same ban (if applicable): viewtopic.php?f=87&t=11073

Your appeal, including evidence (screenshots, etc): Hey, it's me, the fellow that got permabanned about a year back for taking the piss. I've gotten a tad bored and figured I'd see if I could get back into the swing o' things. Old appeal's linked above, so the lot of you can decide for yourselves if it's an unforgivable atrocity in the eyes of the high council or not. If you're not disgusted by my mere presence, neat. If I'm too vile a person to stomach being on the same server with, then it's whatever.

Sincerely,
-Zalgo

Well, you don't really sound that interested in rejoining the server, but we'll look at the logs. ERP is a very heavy rule we often don't lift without good reason.
Ban Appeal Users: If I've lifted your perma ban and you're still unable to log onto the server, send me a forum PM regarding it and I'll work to get it fixed in ~24 hours.

Emerald Blood: CM's mommy and the only head staff who does anything. Even though I hate you all sometimes, I still love you.

Okay. Looking at all the logs, your case is basically just as bad is it was before. I don't see this getting lifted and due to the fact you don't really seem to care, can't say I'd trust you back on the server.

If I didn't care, I wouldn't have posted a second appeal almost a full year later. By the logic that declares my emote as ERP, anyone that types the words, 'Fuck you' in character are ERPing and should be removed from the server without mercy. I've already given my statement last year about why I believe a permanent ban is entirely unreasonable; I'm not going to grovel before the collective throne of the staff team and kiss the king's ring.

Either you believe that a single insult is permaban-worthy, or you don't. If you're taking my personality and 'level of caring' into account, then you aren't being an impartial judge. You're looking for someone to bow before the earth you stand on and beg for forgiveness, and I won't provide it. I thought it was unreasonable then, and I think it's unreasonable now. I do hope you'll forgive me if I'm not exactly enthusiastic about having to negotiate my own allowed presence because I spilled a little salt into someone's tea, and they cried until someone would make the bad man go away.

Was my remark toward them childish? Absolutely.
Was it necessary? Hell no.
Am I remorseful? I don't feel bad about getting someone's frilly panties in a bunch, I just feel stupid for having stooped that low.
Am I going to do it again? I'm afraid to even emote cocking an eyebrow at this point. It's embarrassing, and I don't plan on relapsing.
Was it deserving of a permaban? I suppose I'm not qualified to answer that, seeing how I can't be trusted because of my attitude.

Emoting fucking someone until their anus is stretched out and telling someone "Fuck you" are two very different things, chief.

I'm absolutely against this one. -1

And in that same vein, emoting that out in one message that even the host agreed was purely from a place of frustration and not out of any desire to actually type out sex scenes with a kid is different from your run-of-the-mill ERP you find in locked dorms and dark maint tunnels across the galaxy.

I'm going to a lot of trouble and ridicule to try and come back here, I don't see why I'd be at risk for breaking the rules again. If I had an active desire to pull this again, there's a number of other places I could go to get my kicks. Worst case scenario, I'm lying through my teeth and get banned again with no potential for recourse.

Unless you're genuinely disgusted by my heinous actions of the past, in which case I dunno how you haven't seen worse by now in your line of work, chief.

You come in here after breaking literally the 1 rule that says "no exceptions" then you tell us you're not sorry for it, you don't think it warranted a ban, and that even though you no remorse or respect for our rules, we should give you a shit.

What happens next time you get frustrated and can't control yourself? Instead of an ERP amount you shoot up a couple guys and say "I'm not sorry, and this isn't ban-worthy". Frankly, I am completely disinclined to have a ban lifted on a person who breaks our one "no exceptions" rule, doesn't acknowledge his own actions, and then says "what's the worst that could happen? You just ban me again". Yeah, that is the worst that could happen, but if you can't own up to your own wrongdoings, then it's not worth my time and effort, or the mods time and effort, to have to watch you and eventually ban you again.

Except I did own up to my actions, in both the first thread and this one. If you would so kindly look a little more closely, you might see that I said I didn't believe that my actions warranted a permaban. I understand getting hit with the hammer, believe me, I do. However, it seems like an overreaction to just leave it there for time immemorial. A month? Sure, I get that it's some gross imagery I invoked and folks don't take kindly to it. Eternity's a long time, though, and it's kind of frustrating to have someone who's meant to be an impartial voice putting words in my mouth and speaking for my character on my behalf.

If I think that I shouldn't have been banned at all, then I'd have said that; I don't need somebody else to try and say it for me. I'm ashamed and embarrassed that I stooped that low in a moment of nerd rage, I haven't fallen into such a behavior since, and I don't plan on doing so at any time in the future. You come in here, maybe skim through the first ban appeal and maybe the game logs, but you're not looking for context or nuance. You've already put a label on me, and your own lot on the issue has been cast. You're probably not going to be changing your mind about it. Why would you? You're probably dealing with a dozen other numbskulls, so why should you give more than a passing thought to the one that's not dribbling snot and praying to be absolved of their sins?

I figure that by keeping it real with you folks, I'm giving you a little more respect than the peeps that come in with a sob story and play the tragic victim, ensnared by their passion. I did some stupid shit, and I got hit; I just don't feel like it warrants an indefinite restraining order is all. My presentation shouldn't have any impact on the decision at hand, as long as I'm calm and composed, as per the given guidelines. I'm not trying to be an antagonizing prick about it, and if that's the air I'm giving off, then I'm sorry for it. I'm just bitter about my salt getting me knocked out of a decent server and community for all time, and I feel like we could've worked something out instead of just being cast off with cold indifference. I know y'all don't have to look far for a huge population these days, but to just send me off when I was trying to be reasonable about the whole thing got on my nerves, you know? And I don't mean to take that out on you. I hope we can continue along with no hard feelings.

You may own up to breaking the rule, but you still broke it, and as such, there is a punishment to it that you have to serve.

Well, in neither of your appeals do you ever say the word sorry. We usually expect some sort of acknowledgment and apology for breaking server rules to this extent.

Apop himself in your last thread said that this is not a case of ERP that blurs the line. This is exactly the kind of stuff the rule was made to prevent. That being said as well, the main body of your appeal on this is either forced humor or super sarcastic, and I care for neither right now.

We don't ask for some kind of sob story, but even a sob story wouldn't help you here. You broke the rule for doing the exact type of thing it's their to stop, and that's having any ERP at all, or having a person force ERP onto another person with those dumb one-sided emotes like you did. If it makes you feel any better, permabans aren't actually permanent. The ban should lift itself in about 25 years.

Criticizing me for using forced humor and super sarcastic tones, then turning around and using them yourself? You shouldn't use the strawman fallacy and then immediately open yourself up to the strawman fallacy in the same post.

In addition to this, while you haven't technically lied, you have misinformed anyone reviewing this appeal by implying that I have not acknowledged my rule-breaking and subsequently apologized for it. In the original ban appeal, while I did in fact never use the word 'sorry' as per your criteria, I openly apologized not once, but twice; once to the staff for breaking the rule, and once to the individual player whom I directed my dumb one-sided emote towards. That doesn't mean that all was to be well and good on its own, but I want the record to be clear and misinformation to be corrected. I believe you will find these tidbits of information at the end of paragraph four and the beginning of paragraph five within the original appeal. You will also find that I did not at any point imply that my ban was undeserved; quite the opposite, really. Only that the length of the sentence was harsh for what the situation ultimately was.

Apop said that my emote was clearly on the far end of the spectrum of what they could tolerate, and I understand that. However, he also clearly understood that it was from a brief lapse of judgement and not from a genuine desire to break the rules. Broke the rules I did, and I don't want to devalue my part in that, but it was an outburst, and I resolve to conduct myself in a cool and collected manner these days. Snarky at times, clearly, but in control of my base impulses at the very least.

And I want you to know, the last paragraph of my last post in this thread wasn't sarcastic; I meant every word. Whether you want to take me up on that offer or not is up to you, but I just thought I should mention that.

In regards to Emeraldblood's input, I do understand that punishment is necessary. I have served nearly a year in exile, and I feel that is a more than reasonable amount of time to compensate for my actions. I know what I have done is stupid, against the given rules of the community, and I have been making a personal effort to control any similar urges to lash out at others due to my own feelings with much success. Not that I can offer any proof of that due to the nature of the beast, of course.
