Personality:
Hamada is a straight-laced woman who approaches her job in her own rigid way regardless of what others might think. This soldier's attitude is mostly professional; nonetheless, she maintains a polite demeanor and is happy to banter with her fellow marines -- albeit in a dry, sardonic fashion. While seemingly aloof towards most people, she treats every marine's life as one worth saving. Although in the past, she has prioritized more 'useful' personnel for treatment. As a soldier, Hamada's tendency to tune out her environment in order to focus on medical treatment has proven problematic in prior engagements with CLF forces. More than once, soldiers have complained about having to drag her out of a danger zone. She has a disturbing tendency to favor non-violence, which may explain her outspoken sympathy for the CLF.

History:
Born in the Okinawa region of Japan to Yujin and Haori Hamada, Soseki grew up among relatives with a long history of military service dating back as far as 1939. Despite this pedigree, she was pushed into the field of medicine by her parents, which she took to with aplomb. Excelling as a student, Hamada was praised for her focus, albeit with the caveat of her laziness in subjects she was disinterested in. As a young adult, Hamada decided to study abroad in the United States of America. She became a fully fledged citizen around the time that USCM recruitment advertisements promising adventure in the stars attracted the impressionable med-student towards enlistment. Basic training ended with Hamada qualifying as a combat medic, and she would be summarily assigned to the USS Almayer for an active tour of duty. A lack of outgoing e-mails suggests strained familial ties.

Private First Class Robert Timmins:

"He was the first person who talked to me. I remember it clearly. We were in the briefing, he'd never seen me before, asked me if I was new. I didn't care for him at the time; he called me 'Nip', and seemed condescending. When we deployed, I saw him sticking close to me when we had to push into those caves. I remember taking a bullet, being dragged out, and waking up in medbay with him at my side. Things changed after that, the nickname didn't annoy me as much, and we went out of our way to work together. He taught me a few things about comradery: If you approach someone and have their back, no matter the danger, you'll be alright.

It's a shame that he's gone. I miss him."

Private First Class John Murry:

"Words don't really do this man justice, and I'm sure whoever is reading this would know all I have to say about him from the dozens of stories that get passed around, so I won't bother talking about his combat prowess. Simply put, where others would treat you differently depending on your race or your squad, Murry treats you the same as anyone else if you have his back the way he has yours. I wish more marines had his attitude."

Corporal Tomas Svensson:

"We didn't speak much before he died, but what little time we shared was pleasant. His taste in music was an eye-opener for me; I wasn't that knowledgeable of heavy metal before I met him."

Corporal Vanechka Penkina:

"If Timmins taught me what I know of being good with other marines, then Penkina was my teacher in the art of combat. We couldn't be more different when she took an interest in me early in my first tour of duty, and I probably wouldn't be here without her lessons. I'm conflicted about her. She's not too enjoyable a person to be around, given how she goes out of her way to be spiteful towards anyone outside of her inner circle. That said, I value her advice, but often wonder how horrible it must be to suffer her animosity. No respect for regulations or most people in general, blasé towards most forms of life, a sense of humor that would resonate with teennagers, and prone to frightfully effective schemes.

I count myself lucky that she doesn't make my life hell, especially considering how nominally I'd rate my combat effectiveness despite her insistence to the contrary. I'm no Murry, I'm no Penkina, I can pump a shotgun and aim in a mostly adequate fashion, but that's it. What exactly does she see in me?

Whatever the case, I'm content to let that mystery lie unsolved. Defending a shack against an onslaught of CLF was enough to temper how we felt about each other as marines. I work with her because she can do her job, but outside of that, try to avoid her."

Corporal Samantha Clark:

"I often see Clark whenever I'm deployed with Bravo squad. She isn't a talker, like me. She's a medic, also like me. Unlike me, she's somewhat irritable, yet prone to hugging people intimately, often at random. The two of us get along just fine, but I don't like that smile when she calls me by that nickname... She's a competent medic, and I even learned a few tricks from her. I just don't think I would socialize outside of an operation.

Private First Class Ellie 'Coffee' Weaver:

"She's a waif of a girl, too small to be an adult in my eyes. Medically speaking, she's unfit for service, but she seemed to have missed that given her competency in a firefight. I like to pass her a cup of coffee every now and then. I also have to tell the rookies not to drink all the coffee in the machines lest she lose it completely."

Private First Class Verena Knox

"I'm ashamed to admit that I had a poor first impression of Knox. I like clear communication, so imagine my surprise when this clumsy girl with an accent thicker than butter and hair pinker than bubblegum walks into prep, tripping over herself. The more time we spent together, the more I began to understand her on a personal -- and vocal -- level. She's sweet, no other way to put it. Most marines have a gruffness to them, posturing for their buddies, but not Knox. She's clumsy, sure, but her good attitude has helped me through some terrible slogs on outer rim colonies. I even tolerate her hair now.

I'm worried about what she said about her father. A lot of marines are jingoistic and don't trust her purely because she sounds German...or Russian, I guess? If they knew what he did..."

- Perceptive, logical thinker who displays deductive reasoning skills.
- Aware of her limitations, does her best to play to her strengths.
- Capable of fitting into any squad.

Weaknesses:
- A poor markswoman; slow reaction times make her a sub-optimal choice for fighting mobile targets at range.
- Tunes out everything when performing medical duties.
- Emotionally attached to her squad to the point where losing one or more can severely rattle her.
- Adheres to the chain of command too strictly, to the point of inflexibility.
- Keeps shooting the checkpoint glass.
