- Dr COSTA : Tell me what you can say about this.. operation.
- KESSSERLINE : We geared up, as usual. Briefing. Squad leader went among us to do a good pep-talk. Leaving the Chesty with DS3 ("Chesty" : Nickname for the USS Puller : Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller, Colonel of the American Marine Corps during 1939-1945 war, on Earth, Sol system). I.. I was a bit affraid. This was my first real military operation, not counting the patrols, escorts or "police" assignments on colonies. I had training, I was prepared for this. B-but mentally, I still have those memories running in my head.
- Dr COSTA : Memories you said ? After the deployment you mean ?
- KESSERLINE : Y-yes. DS3 made us land nearly directly on the battlefield. The UPP entrenched themselves 250 meters ahead of us, we were lucky they didn't use heavy weapons to take down our Dropship when it landed. I remember the smell of ammo burning, smoke and sand..

All our squad went out, whole Echo squad. We were deploying with Foxtrot on this mission. They were assigned as reserve forces behind us. We were tasked to breach the frontline on our sector and flank the remaining defenses to allow the battalion to advance and march on this UPP facility.

Ahead of us, about 220 meters, a small rock formation prevented the enemy to directly fire on us.. probably that saving the Dropship, by the way. We ran, moving fast towards that small rock formation. Taking covering behind that, while Foxtrot started making some fortications, 45 meters behind us, establishing a triage center.

On our left and right flanks, we could see sparks, gunfire, explosions.. Alpha to Delta were attempting to breach the defenses too.

Squad Leader looked at me, we weren't spotted yet, with some hand gestures : "Smoke grenade. Cook it. 2 sec. Prepare." I copied. He got his Orbital Beacon and set it down. All the squad were looking at us. I tried to calm my breath..

SL entered the firing coordinates, and the offset on this PDA. He waited 15 sec, Command didn't copy. I remember him shrugging, taking his own smoke grenade and preparing it, just like me. I was ordered to get around our cover from left with half the guys, he took the other half and prepared to get around right.

Smoke grenades launched. We charged. 30 meters of no man's land rendered gassy. Impossible to see through.

We didn't expect the UPP to try to attack us. They spotted the DS, but not us. So, they tempted to fuck us hard before we launched the attack. But we launched it.. but so did they.

We- that was a nightmare. Fighting in CQC in that smoke. I saw that guy, UPP fatigues and armor, same age as me.. I just exploded his face with a burst-fire of my MK1. On my left, 2 meters away, I saw a PFC panicking and buckshotting one of his mate who appeared from the smoke..

Fight was raging in that smoke. CQC, pointblanking gunshots, raging screams and ear-splitting painful cries.

HUD ALERT : orbital beacon setting coordinates. Firing imminent.

Command didn't copy, remember..?

- Dr COSTA : Yes, I remember.
- Kesserline : It exploded the SL's location. The medic of my fireteam just got me on the ground and got above me. The blast went on us and he burnt alive, right on me. Right on me..

Foxtrot went quickly to help, but there were no survivors, except me, with severe burns.. They withdrawed completely of that sector. 2 hours later, Tientsin campaign was over for me..

• 3 years of recovery cryopod with heavy dosage of antidepressants. Body suffered from subconscient PTSD effects : twitching, unability to rest, recurrent nightmares.
