BRIEF BACKGROUND
Dustin was born and raised on a ranch in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Tennessee. Throughout his childhood he had a knack for taking care of the animals on his family's ranch, and even worked for a local equine vet for a few years. After high school, Dustin went to a college in his home state, hoping to study veterinary medicine eventually, though he quickly grew disillusioned of the academic life--after two years of undergraduate studies, he'd only learned an enormous amount of technobabble and absolutely no practical skills whatsoever. He dropped out of college and wandered around Knoxville when he stumbled into a USCM recruiting office and joined the Corps on a whim after the recruiter guaranteed him a combat medic slot.

After basic training, Dustin went on to complete his Advanced Individual Training in Combat Medicine and tacked on a few additional advanced life support courses. He served in a SAR unit in the Sol system for a year before he went on to receive additional training in MEDEVAC procedures and flight paramedicine. Comparing his experiences and all of the practical and applicable skills he'd learned in the Corps to his studies in college, Dustin knew that he'd finally found his calling. After completing his additional courses, Dustin was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Brigade 'Falling Falcons' aboard the USS Almayer and found himself in the outer reaches of space, and far away from home, for the first time in his life.
