FOB's Of CM Past

Post by Karmac » 08 Feb 2017, 10:33

I was totally gonna do an engie guide here but then I remembered I put time and effort into the combat engie guide on the wiki so this place will pretty much remain what it is, an FOB image dump and a place to discuss what do and don't work.

PSA: Flipped tables are not enough to be considered an FOB so if standards could stop doing that, that'd be great.

Sulaco defence and the nexus middle picture don't count as xenos are dumb and decided to attack your strongest points instead of just aciding the walls (Sulaco) or going through the bottom left gap that was opened in your defences (Nexus).

Everything else is pretty good.

Ive seen too many bad engineers that ive grown hardened to the fact that if there is any hole or would be hole in an engineer's well made defence then you might as well immediately retreat as the false sense of security that such a barricade brings is more dangerous than constantly being vigilant without barricades around you.

Fixing holes in the wall is part of the job of being an Engineer, if you can't keep your FOB up to scratch while it's being attacked, you need to pick a different role. But that's a completelt justified reaction to be fair. I'm just the kinda guy that goes down with his ship.

How did you get so much plasteel to fortify the LZ1 on ice? Was cargo competant? Is there some kind of source of plasteel on the planet? I would really like to know.

LZ1 on Ice has a bunch of useless barricades around it that I dismantle and repurpose, it's very helpful.

That's pretty neat. Never thought of it that way. I imagine you can just fortify the two entry points in the north and then relocate all the barricades in the south.

essentially there are only four areas you need the pre-existing barricades for, the two north entrances and the flanks of the middle walkway to the West. Even then you'll still want to move them around a bit to better suit the defensive.

I miss the good Engi forts.

I wish I took a picture, but I was using tables to hold off Crusher charges + boiler bombards by constantly replacing them when they were destroyed at Garage yesterday.

I wish we had more competent engineers :(.

I get a lot of complaints from people that tell me engies are just setting up barebones FOB's and then looking at people funny when they ask the engie to improve it or fix the defenses as they break, it makes me want to go back to the role, but I know it won't make anybody else suck less at it.

Recently as an SL I had Shust as my engineer. He may not follow orders that well but he is one hellofa engineer

Engineers prefer to do their own thing, it usually works better that way, it's how I tried to do it anyways.

The only reason I told him to do anything was because he was overextending. I had ordered alpha to build our FOB in engineering because the Nexus FOB was just horrid. We had 4 people there and he kept trying to expand to tcomms. I finally got him to weld it off though.

In that circumstance yeah, you don't have the people to hold a fort that big, and I doubt he had the mines to back it up either, but sometimes its nice to try new things, I don't see where Shust normally sets up so I wouldn't be able to tell you if he does that alot or not.

We had only four mines and a single sentry, so I decided the best course of action is to make a two layer wall at the back of engineering and throw my OB back there for when they broke through. It was a great FOB though, and because of it marines won

Engineering is so underused as both a fallback point or an actual FOB

B U M P

I'm really hoping to see less complaints about engineers flipping some tables and calling it a day in regards to FOB construction.

Ahh, that FoB was pretty kickass, I would totally snipe my way til my death with you again. 10/10
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

First FOB was much simpler; I had time and plastisteel + metal given to me by Req that round in order to achieve this result. This is basically the better version.

That last stand was great though the round before.
