Alright ye shits, before you say some dumb stuff about "muh RP" or how low RP it all seems, you have to face it, there can be times of good roleplay.
You just need to talk about the right stuff at the right time.
What I'm going to tell you is how to talk about various USCM related things, typically about how you can talk about the lore.

The Tientsin Campaign:
This was a skirmish against a USCM Task force and the UPP Expeditionary Force in the years 2165, a bloody battle over possibly systems, planets for colonization. Such and such.
Although an 18 year difference, and most marines in this battalion would have either been too young to be in direct combat during this time, you can generally talk about the horror stories it had spurred up and your new found disgust against the UPP or whoever you're hating on.
A war where, it had occured but never bothers the ordinary man. Who knows, maybe you had an uncle, father, relative or any one of the grown-ups that could have lived in your neighbourhood that fought in the skirmish.
Either way, a start for making a story.
BootCamp:
Either you had a good reason to join or for shits and giggles, to sign your personal death warrent, you and all marines entered boot camp to be deployed on some frontier in the middle of no where.
You were a young enthusiastic private, willing to go through the shit faze known as bootcamp, your drill instructors, mean and unforgiving. And the training was harsh.
Prepared you for the worst.
You can say there were some pretty dope shit you did during training, either as a bad batch bastard battalion, or the best of the best.
This small battalion you're in is both.
You can talk about how much you hate PT, the NJPs you got all the time or how your drill instructor looked suspiciously hungover from last nights bar game.
A small enough topic to talk about but boot camp is boot camp, werid shit can happen there.
Space 'nam
Alright.
This is a non-cannon topic, ranging back to pre-alpha or even pre-pre-alpha. But that's a story you can dig through the forums for.
This "Space'nam" was a vicious and brutal war, the USCM was fighting the vietmorphs.
But since this is non-cannon,
Might as well change a few things to fit the lore.
This war was based on vietnam, a war where it seemed all hopeless in the end, citizens no longer wanted to fight, US pulled out.
But here's Space-nam, my version of it at least:
This is what I'd put in a few years after the Cristóbal Massacre.
A syndicalist joint coup and backed by the UPP as their supplier as well as other smaller causes, noteably the CLF, started a revolt in multiple US colonies wanting free governing and reign over the planet they were living on.
A devastating war that costed the USCM manpower, political power and the loss of faith in the USCM.
A war that had multiple USCM garrisons and patrol ships, to fight for control of the many planets. The rebels were well armed and well trained by UPP advisors but lacked some professionalism in fighting as an army.
The USCM had the firepower, manpower and the go ahead to fight against them, this lasted for 4 years and 8 months. A complete onslaught and massacre for both the USCM and the colonists.
A small victory for the CLF and in some regards the UPP.
Morale was low, this hampered the recruitment in replacing losses and the overall reputation of the US.
You can talk about how you participated in the war, what you did and how many of your friends are now gone, whole platoons wiped from the face of the universe.
And how you had to bury the horrors of war, the loss of life and the graves you visited deep into a vault back in your imaginary head.
The best topic to talk about in my opinion, since it's still relevent.
The battle for Arcturia:
The Arcturians were a near human species annexed in the 2170s by the USCM task force.
Although a small war or lengthy skirmish, the USCM had taken serious punishment and damage from the fighting but in the end, with superior training and firepower. The Arcturians lost the war.
Now a popular refueling station as well as an excellent off-duty place to visit from what other marine garrisons and officer through out the ranks have stated, could be a place to visit one day.
Or maybe you have and now you're back on duty, or is it your last day in active service for now and wanted to hit the place with your family?
Hell, who knows.
A battle you could talk about, how the Arcturians were a formidable opponent when fighting there. Close enough to the current year that you could just have been in the war as a lowly private or newly trained officer.
Life behind the frontier:
We all have families, or most of us at least, where most of us had grown up as kids, childhood friends or even possibly you started a family and were conscripted into the USCM, (or volunteered).
Maybe you miss your loved ones, the friends back on Earth or on one of the colonies close to it you grew up in.
You can talk about the harsh times you've had at school and the fun you've hadas a child.
Alright for a backstory, the dossier's there for a reason.
Not the best topic to talk about, best to keep it small.
Injuries:
Well there's not much on this one other than screaming at the top of your lungs saying " AAAAAAAAAAAAGGHHH MY FUCKING ARM!"
Exagerate it if you want, I did. Was an MP that got my arm shot off from FF, I just screamed in panic.
Sure it's unecessary to scream but it adds on to the general atmosphere of "WE'RE IN THE SHIT NOW"

Peace time:
During peace time where no one is currently fighting in a massive all out fire-fight, or in this case, futuristic Zulu all over again.
This would be the perfect time in some situations to talk about these topics, how to bring them up though is situational.
Maybe during FOB duty, pre-deployment or in the canteen or places without conflict
Brig:
This is an odd one, no one wants to be in brig, maybe it's because you were an ass for about 20 seconds which was enough to piss off an MP or was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
It's a good time killer, a way to talk about ones life and the troubles someone might have had.
