Machete, is it good or bad?

Post by lucashunter608 » 18 Sep 2016, 13:57

hey folks, today i'm showing you the bad and good sides of the machete, one of the best weapons in the game (for me of course).

Lets start off with the good sides.
*Can hit pretty fast.
*Can kill young xenos pretty easy.
*Riot shield and machete together can be a very strong combination.
*Can be used as an harpoon.
*Can EASILY kill humans.
*Can decapitate very fast.
*Strongly recomended for B18 users.

And then the bad sides.
*Can't use a magnetic harness.
*Can be easily lost in the battle.
*Not very good without a shield.
*Not totally good against mature and higher levels.

Overall it is a very good weapon, you can get in the battlefield and trust me, you can take a ravanger in 1X1, best thing to do is try to avoid bullets, since you're going to be in the front lines, be careful with those sentinels through, if you aren't using a shield they can spit on you and you're done, crushers are vulnerable to blunt weapons, so smash that asshole and show him who's the boss, but also be careful, they can stomp and stun you for some time.

if you have any tips just post it below, bye!

Be sure to attach a quickfire to your machete so you can slash faster.

No, machete is not recommended for B18 users, I advice them getting shotgun/rifle with a stock+gyro+bayonet, harness too.

I don't use shotguns because they're just too OP for the poor xenos, are you crazy enough to get a machete with standard helmet and armor? i'm not, the B18 is for great for machete, because you will be in the front lines getting most of the hits

Taking the b-18 with a machete and riot shield is fun, sure, but it's a pretty terrible combo if you want to be effective.

Xenos will always outrun you, you tend to get in the way of bullets and are only three huggers away from losing your helmet. Not to mention the fact that your armor doesn't protect you from acid splashes.

You'd be better off taking a gyroed shotgun with a harness and bayonet. The damage is similar and you get more flexibility.

Machete is good if you want to look robust AF, but not the best against anything that isn't a young xeno or a human

I've killed an elite queen with a machete once. Then I got killed by a boiler
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Machete is a straight downgrade to a bayonet + stock weapon, so only use it if you have a free waist slot. Otherwise just take a rifle/shotgun with those two attachments.

Why are you taking a machete without the scabbard, and putting it in your waist slot? Why are you taking a stock with a bayonet? Why are you using a stock?

Just take a shotgun with stock/bayonet/mag. It's far superior. Don't even bother loading it. Shove it on your armour, carry a rifle on your back with rifle ammo in your belt.

People seem to think that every single item in the marine's loadout is only there to kill things. The utility in the machete has nothing to do with how robust you are with it, because if you try to use it offensively you're going to get your ass kicked B18 armor or not. The actual benefit of the machete is that you'll be a resin clearing machine. Picture soldiers in Vietnam, they didn't carry around machetes hoping to gut Charlie, rather they used it to clear a path through the jungle. Likewise, the machete is fantastic at cutting away weeds, sticky resin, resin walls, etc with much less effort than a standard bayonet or combat knife.

tl;dr Stop using the machete to do honorabru melee combat with xenos you weeb and actually clear weeds with it like a normal human being.

The Machete is the biggest disappointment since Spore (2008).

If they gave it a melee parry chance, bonus damage on all non-combat applications, and a baseline damage boost then maybe it would be ok.

Also theres a bug where I cant put a bayonet on it.

The Machete is a gimmick item.

Maybe if we had a map that had a LOT of overgrowing vegetation that had to be cut down, or if the Machete had a guaranteed one hit kill on the stick resin, then it'd be viable. Otherwise its more of a gimmick with a very niche application.

At best you can fit it into a loadout by ditching your Ammo Belt and compensating by using a Backpack to carry your spare magazines, but that's really stretching things.

I have never enjoyed melees in combat, it turns out that many times you end up being a walking target for Spitters and obviously, the FF.

I've managed to kill three aliens with a machete one round. One being the second queen after I blasted the first with a SADAR, the second being a spitter that attempted to run away from a group of us, and the last one being a drone which I had trapped in a corner. The drone was probably my best kill, as we traded blows over and over again until it insta gibbed. The machete can do good damage, but you better have good armor or meds to back up the hits and acid burns you'll get. Some kind of parry chance would be nice too, the drone nearly knocked me into pain crit because I had faith in my clicking skills.

makes me sad that this was on a round where i got stuffed into delta squad as a SADAR spec.
Phillip Driver, jack of all trades, reliable in some. Your typical jumpy flamer PFC or ammo fumbling CPL, always has a pair of ballistic goggles on him for unknown reasons. Will probably die mid sentence, because he talks (and gets bullied) too much for his own good. He has his moments though.

Jim, a Gen 2 Synthetic. Has a tendency to get melted to bits when planet side, and that's when he's behind barricades. Despite that, he's vigilant and always ready to drag you out of danger, even if it damages him in the process.
