Mines guide. (read it you braindead engineers placing em WRONG)

Post by bloody russkie » 10 Oct 2016, 05:26

I seen enough mediocre engineers\marines placing mines not so efficient as it can be, so lets get started.
When you place mine its IMPORTANT how you facing while doing that.
Maybe screenshots help, maybe not, i try to explain.
So if you facing NORTH mine will be placed in the bottom of the tile - aka opposite of your facing. Mine facing north will be "south" (below) of the tile. Same with East (on tile placement will be west), West and South directions.

Why bother you can ask? Becuse since mines update, mines can trigger from
1.Direct step on mine tile\slash.
2.Considering facing of the mine it have +1 tile of trigger in said direction aka If it facing north, ayylmao moving from north to south tile from mine will trigger it without stepping on it at all.
Simple - its 1x2 proximity trigger mine that explode in 3x3 radius like usual frag grenade.
Using mines facing effectively, you can waste less mines on locking down areas. (If placed correctly, one mine can lock down 2x2 corridor)
Hiding mines - usual junk that you used to cover mine no more effective, because of facing, unless you mine alien dead body, it usually cover whole mine just fine (huggers too). Use floor tiles objects that you can crowbar from the floor. They have similar placement but its random so keep crowbaring till you get right object according mine facing.
More simple - CROWBAR FLOOR, PLACE FLOOR TILE OBJECT OVER MINE TILL ITS NOT VISIBLE ... PROFIT!

And one last thing - DONT DRAG IDless\AYYLMAO BODY OVER IT OR NEAR FACING, DAMN YOU! IT WILL EXPLODE! RESEARCH HAVE NOTHING USEFUL TO GIVE, SO DONT BOTHER WITH CORPSES AND WASTING MINES.

Papers, M4a1s, Floor tiles, Bodies of all types, Shotguns and load rigs, etc. All good things to cover mines with. If you can see it so can the ayys.

Hidden mine>mine with no cover at all.
Even if ayylmao knows that there is a mine below that paper scrap, he CAN step on it eventually while dodging bullets if mine placement guarded.

If you want to generate massive amounts of alien salt, Hide mines facing upwards under the yellow trees on the map, And mines facing any direction but down under tables facing the opposite direction. If done right you'll have incredibly difficult to see or predict mines.
Bodybags and coffins can hide mines facing left and right aswell.

WOW. THANKS! I didn't knew about new mines mechanic, I only spotted their weird positioning, but I thought it was randomized to make it different for marines to hide mines. Weird, that I didn't see this info in changelog.

The next eggwalls, right here, folks.

Anyways, this is a good guide. As an Alien player, claymore defences I've seen can be crippled by the fact that one claymore isn't facing the right way, and thus isn't barring anyone from just....Walking right past it.

It is also a good idea to spread out your mines as much as possible. In a recent round, I had the displeasure of seeing 3 mines all clustered near each other. If a crusher was around, that would be 3 mines instantly gone.

Mines are most effective when they are spread out in a manner that makes it hard for Xenos to detect. A minefield is deadly, sure, but not to a crusher.. But a crusher won't be able to stomp all the mines if they are well spread around areas of interest.

Instead of clusters of mines, have fewer, smarter placed mines to increase the chance of getting a kill and conserve ammo. Mines aren't cheap, after all, so don't waste them.
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.
