Can it be defeated with time and smart play? Yup.
Is this base ABSURDLY well-fortified against a frontal assault? Yup.

Didn't the admins had to rely on Admin Bus to destroy a fort once upon a time in Alpha?

There was a fort that straight up was impossible to get through, because some smart play used made the things needed to destroy the obstacles impossible, admins had to delete some objects, and even then it still took xeno's nearly 20 minutes to even start actually getting through
