I feel CM is the kind of game you go into knowing that being on the marine side of things isn't going to give you the most enjoyable experience, but you play it for all the cool features, the cool people and all those times you gib an alien with one pump of your shotgun.
Garth Pawolski, or is it Powalski?

I think this is a very common cause as to WHY marines get punished so much with nerfs.Heckenshutze wrote:If the game turns un-fun due to rules and restrictions it's the players fault, not the devs and admins. By meta-gaming, power-gaming and any tactic to "dodge" a rule or a mechanic of the game.
I notice that a lot of nerfs are related to abusive metas, such as making super hypinzine pills, using mesons as cheap night vision goggles, spamming mines all over the place, and even stockpiling on extra building supplies before you even deploy... They are always related to some form of abuse of game mechanics in the marine's favor.
If mines weren't spammed out the ass, we wouldn't have had mines be nerfed the way they were. If people didn't abuse combat drugs so often and in such large quantities, we'd still be able to make effective combat drugs every now and then. Hell, we'd probably even have our deadly flamethrowers still if people didn't abuse them so much, which I assumed is what happened when they decided to nerf them down to the point that they don't even create light anymore...
Meta/powergamers tend to ruin all the good shit for everyone else and make marine life harder...

Yet aliens have inbuilt powergame and metagame tools and are encouraged to use them constantly or else they lose.Renomaki wrote:I think this is a very common cause as to WHY marines get punished so much with nerfs.

Its a two way street; you can't blame everything on Marines when they have to powergame in occurdance to the new Meta. People wouldn't stock pile on resources if FOB's didn't get attacked at round start or, heaven forbid, the LZ being attacked the moment marines spawn in.

Trust me, I hate that shit too... I even made a topic in the staff forum about LZ rushes and how they are not fun for the marines.Swagile wrote:Yet aliens have inbuilt powergame and metagame tools and are encouraged to use them constantly or else they lose.

I can live with aliens slashing our lights, I can try to grin and endure the suffering of xenos fucking with comms on ICE, I learned to accept hugger combat as a marine... But if there is one thing that gets me triggered, it is when aliens rush LZ1 the moment the ship lands.
Although normally when that happens, it is due to command taking until 12:30 to deploy and the aliens get bored of waiting.

A lot of nerfs happen to marines solely because they are able to interact with all of the environment.
Aliens were more or less created from the ground up, so they are only capable of doing set things as compared to the marines who have many items and mechanics they can use/abuse.
Marines often suffer from "This is why we can't have nice things".
A more recent example of this was a few particular notorious marine players realized they could mass spam Claymores everywhere and even jokingly said "I've killed about 50% of the hive with just claymores alone".
These people then cry on the forums after that we had to nerf claymores for everyone due to a few people abusing it or finding an easy mechanic to exploit it.
How about the marines pulling eachother nerf? You ever see a marine drag around another marine using the smartgun to bypass the slowdown on it? Because we did, many times.
This shit happens all the fucking time and can generally be applied to almost EVERY nerf.
This is why we can't have nice things, because the more freedom and trust we give marines... the more they find exploits and loopholes.
You're probably thinking, well Feweh just ban them then! Well, if I did that a lot of really veteran Marine players would be gone by now and as you guys said... you really like the community and players.
Food for thought people.
