I like it. When someone's new it makes everything easy for where they go, what colour text to look for on the radio etc. Later on it lets you find people you know you like playing/working with and getting through the challenges of lizard things eating your face. After all of it, it also lets people enjoy the RP of knowing something about the other characters after having had many chances to RP and shoot the shit while on FOB duty, or the like, and enhances the possibility of RP and those critical moments.

Losing a squad mate sucks, but gets shrugged off. Losing that guy you've been chatting with for days and rounds, know something about and like might drive players to make those movie style attempts to drag their wounded friend back into the lines instead of not risking it for some faceless guy who you've never said two words to. I know I’ve been part of a few crazy charges to rescue a squad mate that shouldn’t have worked but did simply because five marines said ‘aww fuck it’ and went after their friend.

There are 4 Squads, and they're pushing for a common goal, and they joined for the same reasons as the next. While it isn't truly bad, it just creates that "Us VS Them" mentality and removes responsibility from everyone else when one squad fucks up.
Companies like Coca-Cola have separate divisions for their different brands (Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero) and yet they still work toward the common goal of bettering the company. Competition breeds innovation and progress.

I think it's a rather positive addition, letting people be in their preferred squad can let them see familiar faces more and help promote some actual roleplaying. I'm not aware of what the situation was in pre alpha, but it seems most people who use it stick with their squad rather than with other people at least. Also nice if you hold a personal preference for a certain color.

I didn't know about it until this thread, but it will help majorly as I am a bit colorblind with purple and blue, but Alpha or Bravo it is easier for me to stay with my team.

Delta squad does somehow seem more chill than most other squads, it's odd. Perhaps I'm just biased towards Delta, however.

I find the squad preferences a pretty handy feature honestly, it's neat to be in one squad (the best squad) the majority of the time.

Honestly, I don't really care for it.

I'd rather mix it up, keep things interesting. What is the fun of having the same squad over and over again?

Besides, sometimes your talents are needed in other squads.

If my talents are solely macroing single and burst fire for maximum xeno scum killstreak am I good for any squad?

I always rolled delta in the past but I've started rolling Charlie these days. Charlie's like a more calm version of Delta most times and I enjoy that.

For the first time, I played with random squads and most of the time the fate was throwing me to the charlies. I have seen some nice people there, some funny situations like the whole squad playing basketball before the briefing or protecting SL from the MPs by our own bodies and some more cases of great teambuilding. Sometimes, there are really bald persons there, but there is at least one boot in every squad so that doesnt matter.
If there wasnt that preference feature, I wouldnt have worried much anyway.

I like squad preference so far. I joined Delta for the color scheme and now I just like the squad as a whole.
I don't know about the wider effects on the game, I just play the rounds.

On a side note, Christ there are a lot of Deltas in here.

Without turning this thread into a "WHICH SQUAD IS BETTER? FIGHT!" thread, I do have to say I agree with the Delta comment.

I personally like the ability to choose certain squads, especially after being stuck as Bravo for so many rounds, though I can see Reno's point about having it be randomized for everyone.
