mouthy? youre worried about people being mouthy? hey hey, here's a fun idea. how about you give SO's or command guys a "mute x from general comms for 5/10/15 minutes" button? then, if people are "being mouthy" there's a simple ingame way to deal with it that doesn't involve gutting team communication in a team-based game
Misto. Read what you just posted and tell me how that constitutes as a good idea that won't just be used as a grieving tool.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. they can already have people arrested and executed, temporarily muting people off gcomms for being "mouthy" is nothing in comparison

I'm already noticing a common trend: one squadie at a time either drops later than the rest of the squad or is coming back from surgery, their squad is all the way on the other side of the map fighting, they get jumped trying to catch up, but no general comms to call for help from the closer FOB squad so they just die. What fun. Are you enjoying this realism in your video game yet?

Well, I chat a lot shipside. And I do talk to people in person. It's just a bummer that my pool of RP is more limited now. Of course, I'm a lot more chattery than most I guess.

I mean, I'll probably get used to it but shipside lowpop feels pretty dead nowadays.
Well, that depends on what role you got.

If you are able to, why not take a IC break with a co-worker and grab a coffee together? Have a smoke break together? Or generally just shoot the shit during downtime?

If you are an RO or an SO, I can understand that it would be dull and debatably lonely, but roles like MT and CT are much better for RP because they are not as vital a role, so they have the ability to take breaks from their job to relax and shoot the breeze for awhile. Heck, maybe we might start seeing more of this from shipside staff now that conversations are going to be much more personal now. Maybe we'll even see some new interactions.

RP is very heavily dependent on one's role, and there are tools all around that can add to one's immersion, from card games to church. Hell, I remember one time as an MT where we smuggled beer into the Almayer's chapel and drunk ourselves stupid, it was a fun time that...

There's something frighteningly Orwellian about the "same marine mains complaining every time" stance that seems both Feweh and several of the devs have taken towards criticism.

One, it allows them to pass off legitimate complaints as ranting coming from a small, vocal minority that isn't content no matter what the changes are in the update. (Even, and especially, if the majority is actually upset)

Two, it intentionally creates and promotes a division in the playerbase. Since when do people "main" anything in a top down roleplaying game? It's simply fabricated language designed to get people to shun those complaining.

Three, it normalizes the process of pushing out repeated unpopular changes to a game by saying that backlash is just same old, same old. A few people always whine, so what.

I've also noticed that the "same old marine mains" happen to be different every time, because most of the ones that take issue with an update leave afterwards.

I like creating these threads because they let both sides talk over the issue, but this time it's just been a lot of salt, with the devs not quite listening at all to the players. I'm starting to think this server isn't for me anymore...

Snip-
I wouldnt go so far as to say "Orwellian" nor would I say anybody has a "legitimate Complaint" about something that hasint been experienced for even a week of gameplay, I doubt anybody in this discussion has had the time to collect data over the issue as opposed to emotional reactions.

Likewise every gaming community has backlash over anything that changes, Mechwarrior Online adding and then removing something as simple as glass in a cockpit due to community backlash, as an example. Had the CM devs removed General coms at the beginning of the Server's lifespan, we wouldnt be having these discussions.

I also would love to know how you haven't realized that Xeno Mains and Marine Mains actually exist and arent simply some propaganda words.

A fair proportion of the playerbase plays only marine and refuses to play xeno. Either they will just sit and observe or they will disconnect after getting killed/ captured and come back when the game is done. See: roundstart pop or SSD larva midgame on any lowpop round. Hell on the round we were just on, there were 22 xenos at one point and 28 SSD larva with a good dozen people sitting in dchat.

Whether they refuse to play xeno because they don't think it is fun, because they think it is 'dishonourable' to play for the other team or because they think it's too easy-- they're the type of player Feweh is talking about.

Ironically, I feel like those people who refuse to play xenos are actually the cause of the nerfs they hate so much. If xenos had less ssd larva bursting from the first round of monkeys collected, I think the win rate would be more to where the devs want it without all these marine nerfs. Same with all the ssd larva that burst from captured marines while 20 people sit idle in dchat. But nope, can't play xenos, that would be helping the bad guys.

I die as a marine, respawn as xeno, and get to continue playing the game, while others just sit in dchat or do something else.

Just my 2 cents.

I dont play xeno because I do not want to. Its boring as fuck. I only play xeno when I feel like it. If you want to play xeno after playing marine, be my guest. However, if I do not want to play xeno, I am not going to play it. Period.

do you have any ideas for making xeno life less boring as fuck comrade, i think the devs badly need to hear that sort of thing so they can consider implementing it. enhancing xenos in creative and new ways that inspire interest in playing them is a lot more constructive than laying nerfs on the opposition

I don't really play xeno because I don't get in my RPs, and also because I am horribly unrobust as an ayy. If I do go beno, I go drone and weed things and grab the injured.

Just to clarify, when I saw mouthy PFCs I mean PFCs that yell and try and usurp the chain of command, like "EVERYONE TO BRIEFING WE'RE HOLDING THERE" contrary to like every other command role telling people to go to like CIC or medbay or something.

People tend not to want to play xeno because playing xeno has no challenge anymore. They require almost no thinking to play. Players who like challenge naturally shift to the marines since their gameplay is and always will be smart.

Instead of buffing aliens base stats and making them easier to play, add some challenge to their gameplay which will make players who want that challenge play as them.

the "They took my Arpee!" excuse is weak as hell by the reasons you gave above. People's main complain is they made Ramboing or defecting from your squad and squad objectives to go to the frontlines harder. And I think that's good.

Scouting is harder now? Then, as CO/XO adapt. Make new strategies. it doesn't matter if reckless boots don't follow them and stick to the Old Ways, at least, you gave them something different to stand a chance.

Info has to be delivered now by the chain of command? Good, now you will demand and make sure your SO's are competent and good otherwise you're utterly fucked before dropping, same with SL's.. if your SL is being shit, talk to the SO, Demotion and done. Nobody's up for the role? Do it yourself and show those cupcakes how it's done.

Spotted an enemy but can't call for reinforcements? Tough luck, you'll have to rely on your SO. Spam him until he makes the other SO's to tell their squads to aid you up. But for that, you must hold your position or survive long enough, for your own sake.

Can't order a full charge now? Shit that's bad.. but you still actually can. Spam your SO or XO/CO to make an announcement with the Intel you have, order a full charge (or a full retreat) to/from an area.

Think smart, think like real military men.

Start acting like ultimate badasses and stop whining.
Marines last night won 2 times in a row before I logged off just by following the examples I gave. and It was so nice to have your chat box clean of the Silly shit you usually got in G-comms ALL.THE.FUCKING.TIME .. If we go back in time, for example, when marines could run at the same speed of a drone with armor on, and we got the speed nerf, at first, it was a fucking pain in the ass since we were as slow as a mall cop. But eventually, with time, tweaks were made and we adapted, and that's we'll keep doing until we stop playing as marine: 'ADAPT'

----

Regarding the 'main' xenos / marines , they do exist. Even in our staff team, I, for example, I main marine. I main marine so much I almost never play predator or synth, only when I'm REEEEEAAAAAALLY in the mood, and never ever ever ever only in WO play Xeno. By the sole reason I don't like them, I simply don't and I hate hivermind chat, it's three-times worse than G-comms. Doesn't mind what changes you could give to Xenos I wouldn't play them, because it's my choice. Same goes to those that don't play marines for whatever reason and that's valid. Both sides need their permanent, loyal ṕlayers because those are the ones that improves his faction by leading, killing, teaching etc..

However, I do think, xeno players need and DESERVE customization choices for their xenos; at least minor details that makes them feel unique, at least, like predators, their own name only visible by other xenos; really, just something like that, believe me our Neutral playerbase (Those who play both sides) would be gladly to play more Xeno is they would be able to have a face.

It's okay to main marine or xeno, yeah. I just don't like the idea of choosing sides, and I especially don't like the fact that the staff seems to like the idea of setting the majority of the community against one of those sides as a knee jerk reaction to backlash.

Most of my rounds have been as SO and I'm starting to get a feel for how it works juggling all the squads and department comms I have access to. While I'll still miss general comms for a variety of reasons I'm willing to let it go and see where this update takes us. My new problem is that the old squad channels don't work as a marine. I keep trying to use :B to talk to bravo. Since I play a lot of SO and still need to use :B to talk this bad habit won't be dying anytime soon.

I kinda like the new comms, because marines no longer will wander off their squad and call for help when they get jumped so another squad saves them. It promotes squad to stick together more often, and wander off at their own risk.
