Re: Survey results, new Server Rules draft, and next General Rules Only day
Question, does the spoiler rule still count for things A YEAR prior in precedent? I certainly don't think the actual time should be in the rules, but if I start talking about the ending to marvel infinity war am I gonna get perma'd? That rule to me was always super extreme and without much real reason and I'd hate to see the precedent that it set return, personally.

That rule was set in motion due to some people that are dicks spoiling a great antecipated movie for "reasons".NoahKirchner wrote: ↑19 Jun 2018, 04:04Question, does the spoiler rule still count for things A YEAR prior in precedent? Not sure about the 1 year perma ban, gotta het clarified, but I believe that this extreme rule at leadt made people be smart about spoiling good and antecipated movies.

Re: Survey results, new Server Rules draft, and next General Rules Only day
Sure, but movies that come out 9 months ago can be spoiled, if you haven't seen it by then too bad imo. I can understand 3 months, nine months is extreme and twelve is insane.BladeBr wrote: ↑19 Jun 2018, 07:32That rule was set in motion due to some people that are dicks spoiling a great antecipated movie for "reasons".

How will the server be moving forward from here on out?
Will there be new Maps? New Factions? New Xeno Castes? New Jobs and Roles?
Will their be a dedicated event schedule?
When will Weyland Yutaini be changed to “The Company”?

Could add dragging away marine corpses as an example of not metagaming as well, since that can be a typical salty ahelp.
I think that both of these might be better addressed with some mention of aliens having 'minimal interaction' with dead bodies -- it doesn't make sense for a beno to drag a corpse to another z-level and several rooms deep, it's only meta-gamery at work. Sure, move dead bodies out of nests to clear the area for new hosts, or move bodies littering the field to find any hosts potentially hiding, but as an alien, you're interests are in finding and pursuing the living to advance your race, not fiddling with the useless dead.

I feel this is too short and ruins any IC aspect of those who use minor non-English phrases as an aspect of their characters. The lack of clarification or mentioning of its use and enforcement while moderators can understand, many players may not understand or be restricted with the rule implementation.
Thesoldier wrote: ↑16 Jun 2018, 17:506. English only
So does this mean people can't roleplay with Spanish/German/Russian heritage and using simple phrases like Mein Gott, Ay Caramba, Nyet, etc... anymore?
The minimal exposition on the rule is a little disconcerting -- might be able to phrase the standing with "Communication is a key component of CM's gameplay. Roleplaying accented English and the use of linguistic slang is permissible, but speaking English is an absolute requirement at all times"?

Re: Survey results, new Server Rules draft, and next General Rules Only day
The "2. Don't be a dick" rule has been tweaked to be more clear about spoilers after a discussion with staff. Some people wait a year before continuing with a TV season so they don't need to wait for the next episode to release and can watch it all at once, so 1 year seems reasonable.

Re: Survey results, new Server Rules draft, and next General Rules Only day
my only concern with the mutiny rules is that people don't do them because of how risky they now are
by that i mean you essentially have to "announce" your misgivings with your group, which means if the CMP doesn't listen, the CO now knows every single person that is against him and can pre-emptively end any violent conflict early; information is power, after all
the mutinies we had before the rules were in place succeeded due to the element of surprise; a smart SL or well liked marine main would realize the CO or XO was shit, talk to his buddies near him out of radio, storm the CC, and try to break in before MP's realized
thats WHY mutinies succeeded; now that the element of surprise is completely destroyed due to needing to follow OOC rules that force you to reveal yourself, no one in their right mind would attempt a mutiny afterwards; it would be suicide unless the XO or CO are completely dumb

No one's forcing anyone to reveal themselves over the radio. As long as you have 5 people all whispering to each other that they want to mutiny, go for it.
There's supposed to be a level of subterfuge with a mutiny. It's a heavy offense. Find someone getting angry with command on the radio and seek that person out - in person - to discuss what might need to be done, then try to find others.

Wondering if we can add back the whole "No married couples" rule from the old rules. Its common policy and without it will open the door to personal issues aboard and excuses to grief "MPs are arresting my wife!" *Draws m41a1 opening fire*

Marriage gives the claim legitimacy and also will result in nothing but cringy godawful relationship RP. Marines being implied to be together is whatever, I have no strong feelings, but when you legitimize it like this it just results in more disturbing /mes.Pseudomaniac wrote: ↑27 Jun 2018, 20:22Any dedicated metabuddy is going to do that, marriage or not.

Re: Survey results, new Server Rules draft, and next General Rules Only day
Or maybe we could see how it works without it and then add it back if it becomes a problem. One of the reasons for the server draft rules is specifically because of outdated or unnecessary rules. It's been a long time, let it ride, and if it ends up being a problem feel free to gloat, and we can add it again.

This. I'll let it ride for now. If it gets stupid and cringey I'll add it back in. Hopefully some players can treat this seriously, and I'll bet some are IRL husbands and wives that want to RP the same way.

Re: Survey results, new Server Rules draft, and next General Rules Only day
Meta buddies will meta buddy and the claim of "dats muh waifu" only really gives any kinda of legitimacy to attacking someone who purposefully tries to kill your significant other. Interfering with an arrest is still interfering with an arrest, trying to kill someone who accidenyly ff'd someone is still greifing. Trying to stand by your other while they get executed for horrible crimes is still just as dumb as anything else people do.
I don't think it'll make things any worse.

So does this mean we can force them to stay on the military station because they are prohibited from deploying together on combat missions?

Re: Survey results, new Server Rules draft, and next General Rules Only day
I'm rescinding my previous statement. I don't care much about players RPing that they are married, such as two doctors or two survivors, and it being a passing fact that comes up in some obscure conversation. What I hadn't planned was Marines asking to have their IDs changed to match the man's last name because they're married, or an actual wedding happening on the Almayer. That's a level of cringe I don't want to deal with, and judging by that topic about Marriage, many players feel the same.
tl;dr: I'm bringing back the rule to ban marriage RP.
EDIT: I also found this poll done by Apophis in 2015.

Good work, Rahl. It's was extremely cringe-worthy, and most players were doing stuff to try and get it removed in-game.
