Shipside antags won't be added unless rahzel feels like it, and I doubt he will.
Besides, do you guys really think that the MPs will stop enforcing marine law because there might be an antag running around the ship? Marine law was made to enforce standards on marines without admin intervention, they would still have to enforce the law on the ungas as its literally their job.
Adding an antag wouldn't change much, besides the shittery they would cause that would make more harm than good to marines in the long run.

I was thinking more about "becouse antag is doing something", or "antag prisoner needs proper care" rather than "there might be an antag".BladeBr wrote: ↑04 Jul 2018, 12:43Shipside antags won't be added unless rahzel feels like it, and I doubt he will.

It might not stop, but surely reduce it. Like I said before and I'm sure it's true: MP role is rather boring. Idea of "MP mains" is something that scares me. What kind of masochist would want to pick consciously that role with nothing to do after half of hour? Ungas die quickly and then what? MP's are bored, after 10, or 20 rounds there is nothing RP about (Another shit-talk about misbehaving PFC's? Talk about Marines facing threat to humanity? etc.) , yet they have full gear to chase criminals that can't exist, so in time they grow a little "insane" from boredom.
Lack of purpose, lack of entertainment, excess of power, excess of time, excess of EQ... All of it creates a perfect monster. Dumb W-Y thinks it's a Xenomorph species, but they don't realise that perfect killing organism are MP mains.
MP role "promises" punishing bad Ungas, preventing mutinies, but they got nothing.
I found a documentary (I don't know if it isn't scam, but I remember reading and hearing much about it): https://www.thedailybeast.com/kill-team ... you-to-see
Most interesting line is: "... were sent to Afghanistan, they were told it was a “warrior’s paradise.” Yet what they found there was anything but. Their job was to kill, but they weren’t killing. So they felt like failures—until Gibbs gave them a chance to feel like the soldiers they thought they were supposed to be." (It's funny and interesting to see this happening to MP's in a game, psychology is like my hobby)
In our Mp's case: "As much as anything else, this is the message of The Military No-Fun Police. When ORRRAHHH! & Unga. were sent to Almayer, they were told it was a “MP’s paradise.” Yet what they found there was anything but. Their job was to arrest bad Dungas, but they weren’t arresting. So they felt like failures—until Jack Knight gave them a chance to feel like the MP's they thought they were supposed to be. “It was nothing like how everybody described that role,” someone tells Cabal in the post. “And part of that is probably why, you know… things happened.”
They need something to do, nothing else will stop it.
"Moderator seems to not believe that the military police—or rather, the military police’s traditional view of who a MP should aspire to be—is partially to blame. For generations, the military police has molded men into the embodiment of admin. “We’re arresting you from the day you’re in til the day you’re out,” one MP says in the post. “Your job is to arrest everything that gets in your, or/and Marine Law way.”"

Re: MPs have become antags?
I'm sorry CABAL, but I feel like comparing people who spend months in a foreign country to someone playing a 2d spessmen game is inherently flawed.
Just like how the MPs have nothing to do after the marines launch, the doctors have nothing to do till the marines come back in pieces. Yet it's basically unheard of for doctors to somehow abuse their position.
In my opinion the reason some MPs get arrest happy isn't because of boredom, but because they consider performing their role of arresting law breakers to be more important than the marines winning the round.
To be honest I can't always blame them for this, since at times people that are critical to the rounds, such as the RO or aCO, decide to be little shifts and expect to get away with it because "am too important for jail"

It's small scale, for sure, but things are "matching" in few ways. Months in foreign country vs hours in 2D spessman.Dothal wrote: ↑04 Jul 2018, 18:46I'm sorry CABAL, but I feel like comparing people who spend months in a foreign country to someone playing a 2d spessmen game is inherently flawed.

MP mains think that arresting anyone is important, not only law breakers. Judging by the description of accidents like hitting window with a backpack(That does probably no damage to window), or having "insecure" equipment by leaving flamer on the floor in prep room. MP's just want to arrest, becouse they think this is their job and by not arresting, they are not doing their job. Giving them purpose (shipside soft antags) is what they need.
Doctors have nothing to do to 40-50 minutes after round start, then they have constant stream of broken bones to the end of the round. In indeal round where there is no law breakers MP's do nothing at all. Doctors are always needed.
Besides, they don't have even a way to screw with other players, when there are no patients. I can't even imgine what Doctor could do due lack of patients to mess with other players (in terms of "soft grief" that isn't obvious at the first glance). Can you?

Re: MPs have become antags?
I keep seeing people whine about getting in trouble for flamers in prep rooms, yet until the most recent (like a week ago) update to marine law, it was completely against the rules. Back when Apop was in charge I was even sent a screenshot from Apop himself saying that flamers in prep rooms was against marine law, so we HAD to enforce that rule.CABAL wrote: ↑05 Jul 2018, 03:13It's small scale, for sure, but things are "matching" in few ways. You may be right about doctors actually getting things to do compared to MPs, but if an MP is bored in the round they can just alt-tab out and do something else, then check in to see if they missed any radio calls.

Re: MPs have become antags?
If MP's are "bored" there's nothing stopping them from just walking around to the various crew and bullshitting with them. That's what I do, until engineering gets annoyed and tells me to go away.

Re: MPs have become antags?
When I'm bored as an MP and everyone is on their best behaviour, I start helping around the ship. Moving wounded off Alamo into medbay, moving corpses to upper medical, putting SSD people into cryos or or stripping corpses and sorting through their gear. Useful things to help around without stepping on someone else's toes.

Re: MPs have become antags?
I haven't been on in a month or so, but as someone who mained MP I can tell you there are a couple types of MP I can think of off the top of my head.
- Ubermensch (basically Jack Knight)
- Hardass (varies in effectiveness)
- The Worker (Gets shit done. Can be mistaken for Hardass)
- The Nice Guy Who Does Nothing
- The Baldy
- The Baldy Shitter ( a subspecies. Likely a griefer, really bald asshole, or both.)
Regarding important people being arrested
Not going to lie here. IF the charge is legitimate and not a shit storm of confusion these people are fun to arrest. Just because you have a valued role does not excuse you from marine law. Everyone on the ship must obey it (with the occasional noted exception of admin sent people like Admirals/Provost Marshalls/Company bosses).
Regarding "Bored MPs"
Most MPs just do their job. In my experience, unless it is a certain CO or CMP, the MPs rarely take in many people and almost every one is valid. Hardass MPs, ubermensch, and worker MPs usually take in at least one person by nature. Nice Guys are nice and just take in people set to arrest and even then may let the guy go when they committed a valid crime. Baldies vary in idiocy of course. Baldy Shitters are essentially griefers.
Regarding Hardass MPs, Ubermensch, and Worker MPs
If you look you'll find someone breaking Marine Law. A easy example is disrespect and insubordination. Not following a order and/or disrespecting anyone above you in rank could be brought to the MPs as a charge. A funny example is a Pfc telling a LCPL the "fuck off prick". This would be disrespect. Still, almost never will this be reported to a MP. However, if a MP overhears it they could arrest the Pfc providing they know it who it was directed at and if said person it was directed at was higher in rank.
Regarding Flamers
Last time I heard from a moderator regarding flamers in prep they said Apop confirmed that flamers in marine preps were unsecured equipment.
Regarding CO arrests
I'm on the fence with this. Sometimes a CO may need to be arrested for something, but this is RARE.... or should be. If the CO did something so bad they are getting perma or being relieved of Command that means HC needs to give permission. Otherwise, it is perfectly legal to arrest the CO for something minor. Here in could lie the problem. A CO in pajamas could be percieved by some MPs or CMPs as neglecting duty and/or in improper uniform by failing to be in proper uniform. Furthermore, this would count as Conduct Unbecoming as a CO is an Officer. In short, how this is handled would be up to the CMP. Still, I think it would be more prudent for the CMP to either A. talk to HC first about it or B. arrest for improper uniform and conduct unbecoming.
In short, if what I'm hearing is correct COs are being arrested by MPs for minor shit a lot and it needs to stop. In that same vein of thought, since I've been out of the loop, the issue could also lie with the COs behavior if they are really attracting MPs to them like flies in such a way.
