There are so many gimmick COs now that they're all just kind of bland.
Also, due to the large amount of gimmick COs, the "I was just pretending to be retarded" defense aka the "I was just RPing as a bad commander" is now common and often accepted.

My new gimmick is to roleplay as a 72 year old commander who has memory loss and can only walk and not run so I can totally steal that justification for losing
