I personally prefer to give out medals for accomplishments which I would consider impressive, someone getting a good lase isn't something I consider something worthy of a medal. Other Commanders may give away medals like candy (Hell, in the past I used to give away memey ones when they first became a thing) but I don't use other Commanders as my baseline, especially when I see some of them throwing around medals for stuff like "BillyBoBBizWorth wrote: ↑26 Aug 2018, 17:56"You will earn a medal when your not trying to earn one, and thats doing your damn job marine, that will get you a medal!"
Honestly, dont even try to get a medal, but just try to kick ass in the round your playing and if it gets noticed, you will get one, if it doesnt get noticed, it doesnt matter, you still kicked ass.
The best medals are the ones you dont even expect to get, possibly may not even deserve it completely. However someone was watching and reporting on your actions and was considered enough for a medal in the first place.
You can lie, brown nose the CO/command staff and spam over radio for attention like delta/charlie regulars do(they know who they are) like a little girl, but youll never appreciate it, because you didnt even deserve it on merit anyways.Others will pick up on this as well and think your a douchebag too, i know i do.
Yeah sounds about right, thats the kind of retarded statement jester would make.
And as a kind of "spit in the face" against that kind of statement, i will mention that most of my medals(earnt roughly 10 that i know of), have infact been from lazing for CAS as either a proper SSGT or a ASL with binos ive found. So even though he may see it that way, many other command staff dont and the numerous medals ive gotten for exactly that proves it.
If someone gets a medal from me, It'll because they did something BEYOND their duty, something for other marines to look up to and something they should feel proud about.
I remember a chap who single-handedly guarded the supply route on LV (North hydro road) alone for nearly 3 hours without moving, except to escort any wounded or supplies going through, I didn't tell him he was getting a medal, he just saw it at round end and he was beaming over it in OOC.
He showed initiative, devotion and a willingness to take one of the less popular duties without complaint.
His squad were north of the river but he made a judgement call which really did save a lot of lives, even if it wasnt' obvious. Nearly a year later, I still remember it, it may not seem like much but it was impressive to me.
If you personally enjoy getting 10 worthless medals, that is totally thing, but I'd rather get one for something really worth talking about.
