As a fellow marine main player, I would like the devs to add embedded MPs to all squads that stay with them and enforce proper equipment usage even during planet-side combat.

God in Heaven on high could not create a role that would get griefed more than this. MPs need a way to deal with ground side threats, this is not it. People would take it and just act like normal unga, especially in Delta.

MPs are antags on CM. On every other server Security is there to stop the antags. There are no antags on the ship (unless it's an event round). There's no reason for security on CM and if you commit any serious crime you prob gonna get warned or banned to not do it anyway. Waste of a player slot. AFK role most of the time. Definitely does not need to be there like 6 slots for them.

this

unless MP's are given something more to do, they are the antags for the first 20-30 minutes before drop

after that they just AFK till almayer defense / admins get bored and send UPP

I'm pretty sure in the marines they don't do briefing with guns in their hands and off safety. Whats so hard about pressing E though? I don't see the deal with this thread tbh. It can easily be fixed by just marines not having guns out by pressing E, if you are stripping an attachment just alt+click the gun toggle safety>safely remove the attachment without worrying about the gun going off

I would appreciate if some marines took their pants off their head when it came to the law. If I'm brigging you for 5 minutes due to you not wearing your uniform (Hooliganism) or insulting the Commander (Insubordination), do not escalate shit so heavily that I'm giving you a permanent sentence. This happens a lot with players like Erich Bishop and Buck Montes. A simple arrest turns into a 15 minute manhunt, bring assaulted with a weapon, and nearly bring kidnapped.

mp's are antags and only exist to bully or be bullied

like, they have 0 job after the first drop

they never deploy to apply justice to insubs, they don't have any skillsets (last i checked) outside of police so they can't heal people, they can't do surgery, they can't fix shit

so they are useless wastes of player slots after the first drop

they used to be more relevant when CO's asked MP's to drop and arrest people for doing stupid shit (which ended in shenanigans like Jack Knight pwning an entire squad that decided to mutiny against MP's)

now they don't do any of that.

and MP mains wonder why no one wants to play MP, and mostly newbies play it

well because its essentially the perfect newbie role to get to know the Almayer and the shipside staff; the only other better newbie role is MT

In my experience, there are generally three types of MP.

You've got the F.N.G. who doesn't really know what he's doing/possibly doesn't care.

You've got the incredibly overzealous people who'll arrest you for farting in the wrong direction, although, in their defense, some of them are afraid of somehow not enforcing every facet of Marine Law, and catching Hell for it.

And then, you've got the MP who is level-headed and has some sort of balance to be had, punishing the blatantly stupid and lightly chastising the innocently clueless.

Its pretty simple.

If you're complaining about the existence of MPs, you're the reason they are there.

This, but not quite. If you're complaining about the existence of MPs and not the existence of shitter MPs, you're the reason MPs have to exist in the first place.

If you complain about the fact that some MPs specifically are terrible but don't acknowledge that MPs can be decent, you should probably take a moment to ask yourself if the MP that's trying to be civil deserves to spend the next twenty minutes trying to arrest five people that decided to interfere just because they saw the MP arrest someone that cooked off a grenade on the Almayer or misfired and injured someone.

Sure, there's bad MPs, but there's also ones that, if you're decent and understanding, are civil and polite, such as this time I was a PO and the CMP decided to have the entire MP force drop for evac and force all the doors open so I couldn't lock it down to buy time, then the CMP had me arrested for neglect of duty after their own insubordination. An MP walked up and apologized for arresting me because they were just doing their job, let me vent my frustration at the CMP's antics, and then allowed me to disarm myself before walking me to the brig since I agreed to go without a fight and informed them of everything that I was going to do in the process.

As much as I'd hate to admit it:

Griefers make MP really fun. Someone who does something excessively illegal, gives you a rightful reason for a long sentence, or has this long, epic chase/hunt as you try to find the culprit of a shooting in medical is a HUGE amount of fun for me as a MP. I totally understand why the server rules are in place, but I'd just wish that MPs would be allowed a bit more freedom to exercise IC punishments on things that are typically an OOC problem, things such as ID theft, bullying, random attacks, improper escalation, etc. could be alot of fun to handle as an MP.

As for everyone complaining that MPs are antags... no. MPs are there to do what moderators aren't allowed to do: Handle IC situations. As an MP, if you play a fair, just, and above all, SMART policeman, you can get some serious respect, roleplay, and fun out of a round (provided it isn't lowpop). The hatred to MPs is mostly stemmed from the memes that've developed from some particularly bad experiences. I'll just sum it up for people:

Just like police in real life, not all of them are cunts. Some are more than happy to leave you with a warning, talk to you politely and cheerfully, and even mess around and have some fun. Most of the time, this may not happen, but that's just because a considerable portion (of at least what I percieve) of MP players are new, or don't understand just how important their role is to be played seriously. MPs are a respectable, important part of the Almayer's function, dare I say one of THE most important functions onboard.

Respect your police officers, they might just be the one to save your life, recover your stolen items, or find your murderer.

Honestly, why is this in the game?

You misclick once during briefing, while attaching something to your gun or loading your mag, or working with the clunky SS13 interface.

And there you go, removed from the round for at least 20 minutes. It's just not fun. It's just fucking obnoxious. All that happens is a medic places a bandaid over the wound and it's all fine, but you can fuck off out of the round for at least 20 minutes. And MPs wonder why they are FF'd so often.

Being an MP on the old ship was never dull, that's for sure.

Among other things, it was quite a round when you get knocked over by the supermatter delaminating. Why, I remember when we had ejected the supermatter, but it swung around and annihilated the hangar bay.

Now I've segued into the very first time the random dropship crash-land mechanic was used..
