Well uhh it should have a TON of phoron/plasma/whatever term capacity, since it's not longer going to fit in a backpack, and you now have a single backpack tank instead of 3 seperate fit in backpack phoron/plasma tanks

Tg code has a backpack sprayer for janitor that can be converted into a flamethrower ingame. This code could likely work for the proposal with some minor editing and spriting.

Again, I know how we'd implement it, it would function the same as smartguns.

Is this still a concern?

Less a concern, more an idea that could be cool.

But really, this would probably just function like the smartgunner pack does. The flamethrower won't function if it's not equipped, and you click the icon to "reload" it.
No need to reload, you can just make that as long as you don't have the tanks on it fires like the normal M420 from the canister, when you wear the tanks a line is added to the sprite, then the flamer removes the units of fluid from the tanks and stops taking from the canister.

There's no need for a new flamethrower, that'd be kinda tarded, also there are none more on the lore.

Ehhh... this feels like additional work I don't want to do...

I feel this would only be a useful addition if the damage fire does is increased dramatically or the way in which it works is changed, otherwise a specialist is giving up more powerful weapons, such as the sniper, just to be able to spray flames that are ineffective for anything but clearing weeds.

Perhaps when hit, the aliens would catch fire, much like how the sniper already functions. Just an Idea.

That's with only one specific type of round. But, I can look into that possibly...

It's the future, they got space ships, as was pointed out I think with a sponge inside the unit containing the fuel so this exploding shit wouldn't happen? They would have something like this by CMs time. However, the pack could take damage, or malfunctions creep into the weapon after usage? A flat % of malfunction per firing or related to how full the tank is? Emptier it gets, the more the hose fucks up and you gotta head back/get your squads engineer to fix it with his tools. Hits might make the tank leak and non-function as safety features shut it down to prevent obvious fiery death. Until you again get your engineer to fix it. Probably sealing the holes on it, maybe lowering its max storage in the process.

As for flames, they are only bad against very high tier xenos. Lower ones are still hurt by them, the fire clears weeds easily (really this is not to be underestimated), providing area-denial while it burns, removing slow-inducing weeds on the ground, and also meaning the xenos are not able to heal in the heat of melee with you.

Eh, I'd rather not give giant backpacks of fire.

Honestly, I made this suggestion for two reasons:
A) I always thought flamethrower backpacks were cool

B) on Nostromo I could never get enough ammo because I had to compete with others for plasma tanks

This really isn't a problem anymore.
