IRL, yeah, it happens and there's jack-shit we can do about it. But this is a controlled environment where we can easily just prevent it from happening in the first place.

Also it might lead to an increase in Command competency.

Once we have a majority of marines who can actually act competently, then we can worry about trying to get everyone to react to deaths and stuff better ICly. As it stand right now, theres some really really stupid marines. No point in roleplaying properly in response to their suicidal antics, as it's just wasted typing.

It's not that difficult, RP and Combat can be mixed if you take into account some personal writing ability. All you really need to do is emote all the little things in-between combat phases.

Again, not the point of the initial rant at all. I don't care if someone doesn't RP their combat. I really, really do not care. Hell, I don't do that most of the time simply because by the time I type up what my character is doing, I could be dead.

What the post is about, is those shitty players that think it's acceptable to be complete pieces of shit in their RP just for the lulz. This is especially prevalent when regarding the deaths of soldiers. A lot of people in Command take an almost amused stance when presented with the recent death of a marine. This is a problem. This would likely not fly in a legitimate military environment. If something like this got out on a social media site, there would be outrage, the Commander would be pretty much forced to resign even if only for PR.

And there's the whole "No insane characters." rule, being a sociopath would probably make them insane, ESPECIALLY IN A COMMAND ROLE.

Only if they have a white crewcut hair, mustache and a cigar.

I mean it depends on the player and the mood at the time. Sometimes I'll have a more realistic reaction, sometimes I won't. Most of the time I try to RP death situations realistically.

MAYBE, we can somehow build in a morale system or some shit where if you experience a lot of death near you, you get negative side effects.

WHO KNOWS, maybe we could get it to work, maybe not, but either way, it may be an interesting addition if we can figure it out.

that'd actually be pretty cool
but when you think about it it'll just make the aliens into a momentum machine. the more marines they kill the less likely the marines will win is always the case, but with a morale system the chances of making a comeback are nil

I think marine morale takes a hit pretty easily on its own. No need for a system.

No need for a morale system. I'd just like people to take the RP part of the server a bit more seriously when they play as Command.
