As an RP server, story is good, and this is such simple and easily implemented story I see no reason it shouldn't be added.

-1 Because it's gonna be my dumb ass who probably has to write it.
Op orders are as much fun to write as they are to read. I could write one, but no one would understand it save a few people. I could write a dummied down one, but then that kinda defeats the purpose. An op order is filled to the teeth with acronyms and syntax that I didn't even understand in my earlier military career.
In addition, it's the company commander that writes the op order, because otherwise he wouldn't be able to dictate how the mission is suppose to go. If the op order was written already, the commander wouldn't have any role other than to see the mission is completed directly as ordered.

I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

I can write an opord. I have fun writing them. But then again I'm a huge fuckin' nerd.

Re: Operational Order for Commander
I already posted in the thread, but I think that if it offers more immersion for players, even if it's not 100% true to life, it could be a nice addition. We'd just need someone to write it.

The unknowns and N/As are due to the nature of the objective. There are no confirmed or known contacts, therefore they are unknowns or not applicable.Jroinc1 wrote:That's REAL good. Maybe add in some of the unknowns and N/A's, but I like it a lot.

This is looking good. You might want to look at this document for reference. There's probably a section about the TTPs of the corp. https://www.scribd.com/doc/21995420/Ali ... cal-manual

Looking over it, the dispositions listed are very basic, if not no-brainer stuff. Stuff like corps, divisions, brigades, regiments, etc.quarantinetimer wrote:This is looking good. Re: Operational Order for Commander
Alright, so you say this alert doesn't inform us of anything, yet people don't realise that. I see Commanders going on about rescuing survivors and turning on the power, when we don't know any things gone wrong, it's an AUTOMATED distress, nobody called it, therefore you cannot assume there are survivors as there is either nothing seriously wrong, or they are all dead, seeing as none of them bothered activating the distress themselves. As for the power, how do you know there's anything wrong with it? If there was no power how was the automated distress sent out? People abuse information too much in this game.
As for survivors? Consider this:
"Oh thank god you recieved our distress!" - Survivor
"What are you talking about? We recieved an automated distress, nobody sent for help down here, you're probably space pirates that killed the lot, take 'em down lads" - Marine
*Gunfire erupts*
Credit to FreeMySoul for revealing this to me.

Re: Operational Order for Commander
The meta knowledge in this regard is almost unshakeable, Carmac. We all go through the same motions in the game, on both sides. How do xenos know as much as they do if they're all spawning as larvae? How do they understand the complex electronic systems throughout the colony?
You're right, marines shouldn't know anything, except that they are in orbit - scans could simply tell that the colony has no power, and no one is hailing their attempts at communication. Based on these two facts alone it's safe to assume that:
Power is down.
Something catastrophic may have occurred.
Lorewise this should be either a bug hunt (glitch in the code somewhere that screwed the colonists over), pirate/rebel attack or Russians. That means 2/3 times the marines are expecting a fight and that there have been casualties. In all three of these, lack of power has likely led to chaos and possible colonist deaths.
My point being is that you're right but also, wrong. There are lore explanations for how marines know meta things, and the same goes for aliens (hive mind magic).
As such, operational orders like this add to the immersion and give something to jump start each command team, especially if a seasoned CO doesn't spawn.

+1, Having the command staff come together instead of going off and doing their own thing really helps the marines.
Just some funny moments.

Re: Operational Order for Commander
CM already has a fair bit of acronyms and syntax that could fo sho be used instead of actual military acronyms and all that jazz. Just brainstormin' tho.Biolock wrote: Op orders are as much fun to write as they are to read. I could write one, but no one would understand it save a few people.
