Re: [RP Oriented] Rank Prefixes
I would like this to happen because it would facilitate greater RP. You're not supposed to listen to the private, or other low ranks. You're supposed to listen to your higher ranking officers.

RP is fine as it is, in all honesty. I'd agree to this IF higher ranks were actually fully competent, which they aren't 90% of the time..Lostmixup wrote:I would like this to happen because it would facilitate greater RP. Re: [RP Oriented] Rank Prefixes
This just adds RP to the mix. People genuinely have no idea of the ranking structure, but the spare few who've read the wiki. Accepting this would logically lead to an official logistics structure being made for people to follow and go off of. The Commander and XO don't have Marine ranks, they're Navy ranks. "Commander" and "Lieutenant Commander." Adding simple prefixes to the name, changes nothing but for the good. It adds to the RP mix, so that way people will stray away from calling each other SL's, and instead call them "Sergeant", for example. What you've stated has nothing to do with adding RP to the game, which is always a good thing. Having a competent command has zilch to do with having a rank prefix. The ranks need to make sense, and be accessable. For example, we still have a Technical Sergeant listed as the rank for MT's. Marines, nor the Army use this rank anymore. The only branch of the military that uses it is the Air Force. Adding this would only make for more addition to role play, allowing people that play fairly casually that don't read too much into things, for example to making an effort to find the wiki, to know the ranks of certain soldiers so that they might adjust to the current situation at hand. This overall would just be a nice benefit to see, and I seriously hope this could be added.Mitchs98 wrote: RP is fine as it is, in all honesty. Well, even if I play as standard, when I say, that command staff are idiots and plan is shit, most of marines still believe me. Average and veteran players will still remember, who is adequate and who is not, ranks won't change much in this, but it will be more RP possibilities with knowledge of exact rank of person you are talking to.

If we're 100% Marines, why the hell is there a squad "Medic" instead of a Corpsman, and why is he a Marine, instead of a navy man?LordeKilly wrote: A specialist is an army rank, we're Colonial MARINES.
Also refer to this page, which is our, "100%" lore safe wiki made by and for this server: wiki/Rank

Because we're not the USMC, but the USCMC, which are different - although similar - entities.AishaKitty wrote: If we're 100% Marines, why the hell is there a squad "Medic" instead of a Corpsman, and why is he a Marine, instead of a navy man?
It's the futureeeeeee.

Specialist is their Title, not their Rank.LordeKilly wrote:I'm 100% Sure "Specialist" is also their rank. Sorry to say they are NOT a Sergeant.
Examples:
Title: Squad Medic, Rank: Corporal
Title: Squad Engineer, Rank: Corporal
Title: Squad Leader, Rank:Staff Sergeant
Title: Specialist, Rank: Sergeant
In other words, Specialist is not their rank, it's just the title on their ID used to Identify their position. Your a marine so you should already know the Ranking structure RPly that is provided specifically for you to actually understand the ranking structure.

Aisha originally said that, but one box was skipped in the whole quote maze.
Regardless, Specialist is the billet, Sergeant is the rank.

Would love to see some sort of developer or head staff response/feedback on whether or not we can expect to see something like this implemented in the near future, given the amount of overwhelming support for the idea.

+1, (You don't win a war by dying for your country. You win a war by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his. -George S. Patton)
If egos of the CO arent fed, it wont be as easy to get marines to do suicide work, I actually try and keep as many players alive as possible, but some CO's really dont see marines as people, more like little battalions in Total War.

I'd really like to see this implemented, and for the people worrying about people not listening to privates, that is the way it should be. USCM is a military organization. In real life and in the movies sometimes officers make bad decisions, but for the most part you have to listen to those decisions. You shouldn't listen to a private if he says attack the caves and the CO is saying stay in the FOB. The only time a Pvt. should be yelling out orders is when things have gone to shit and there is complete chaos all around them. Sure it might mean the marines lose a little more, but I personally think this server is about a bit more than just winning and losing. Some of my favourite rounds have ended in alien victories. I find RP and Immurshuns more important than just winning and losing.

If we're going off the ranks from the film, shouldn't specialist be Private First Class? That's the rank both Drake and Vasquez held.

I believe Apop made the list, and it is as is currently. Also makes some sense.
Personally I'm not against Spc be PFC, but thats not the point of this discussion.

Re: [RP Oriented] Rank Prefixes
I'd prefer that they remain Sergeants just because it simplifies the chain of command. Often times medics and engineers will stay behind at the FOB while the SL, Spec, and marines go and assault. If the SL goes down it makes more sense to have a strictly combat role take over, vs having a role that is already busy with healing wounded or building FOBs/firing bases. Spec being a sergeant makes more sense from a gameplay perspective. That is unless we rework ranks to be variables within the role system.SecretStamos (Joshuu) wrote:If we're going off the ranks from the film, shouldn't specialist be Private First Class? ie.
Marines have a chance of being a Pvt, PFC, LCpl, Cpl, or Sgt.
Medics and Engineers have a chance of being PFC, LCpl, or Cpl
Specs are PFCs or LCpls
SLs are SSgts
Now that brings up the question if ranks should be chosen by the player or given out at random. Giving it out at random prevents everybody in the squadron setting their rank to sergeant, but it might result in situations where some FNG gets the role of sergeant and has no idea what to do.
This system might be a little more complicated than it needs to be, but it would allow for more hierarchy within the squadron.

I already call people by their rank and last name. Or at least try. Adding the rank prefix to their name would make things a lot easier.
Plus, (MAYBE) it would stop people from going "HEY,BO, DO X FOR ME PLZ" or "hey co hows it hangin" or similar.
Also, muh immershun.

'Specialist' As in a weapons expert. Their Rank is Sergeant. You're thinking of the Army...which specialist is a rank. The marine equivalent is Lance Corporal.AishaKitty wrote: I'm 100% Sure "Specialist" is also their rank. Sorry to say they are NOT a Sergeant.
