+1. Would make it easier to follow a SL. Xenos have it, why not marines too?

You would have to have the beacons set like the over watch channels instead of it being detachable, this is so that new helmets can be ordered instead of a juggling game with the SL's beacon. Apart from that +1

Definitely think this should be on the SL armour as the helmet getting lost is annoying ASF, and BOs can already use their squad tracker to call out alien positions if the SL (or any other marine) is captured.

I agree that it should be armour, not helmet.

+1 to this idea for sure.
possible alterations:
- Due to lag created by motion tracker scripts ( from what i've heard) squad locator beacon is an activatable ping instead of a constant alert.
- Squad trooper can click on armor or in Objects menu to send out a ping to locate the Squad Leader. Requires a few seconds to recharge.
- Squad locator beacon only works in a short area: Balances squad around needing to stay in the general area of your Squad Leader or you can become "lost". If the SL is abducted into caves, the squad cannot immediately find him from across the map without getting near enough to get a signal.
- Sargent can activate his locator beacon to send out a "pip" to all other squad members of his location, essentially telling marines where the SL is and that they should "rally" to him

Hopefully this helps give some balance to the squad knowing where the Squad Leader is at all times. This gives some pressure to the marines to stay in a decently knit formation, promoting squad cohesion while still retaining the drama of "I've lost my squad, where did you go?! Its dark. I think im near medical... I think im getting close by you.. oh god NOOO!". This also gives the SL a tool to keep his squad together and reinforce his leadership. Sometimes in the middle of an intense firefight, you dont have time to type up "Rally on me, south of medical". Having a single alert click can greatly reduce the need for an SL to stop, stand around for 10 seconds to type his location, then get moving again.
Gaze upon me,
for I have wandered deep into the ancient tombs of knowledge to which lie madness and sorrow, cleansing a path for all those who walk behind me...

...

But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!

Do you want the server to lag? Because this is how you get the server to lag.

70 Tracking Procs running constantly, shifting arrows as people move.

It'll be the motion tracker all over again.

I'm gonna have to deny this fer now. Maybe in the future, if we come up with a more efficient method.
