U.S.S.R. Gulag
While the marines were busy engaging the hostile alien threat on the planet, a small group of Iron Bears stumbled upon the USS Sulaco, led by Andrei Yeltsin. The bridge was only staffed with a single XO, and after Andrei determined that most of the marine forces were planetside, the IBs took over the bridge, sent the ship into lockdown and executed the XO without any resistance. A long-range transmission was sent out for the main force of the IBs to move in and board the USS Sulaco.
http://prnt.sc/et0ekj
With their reinforcements, the IBs took over the entire ship, as the USCM combatants were neutralized alongside any hostile civilian bearing arms. Compliant civilians were brigged and taken as prisoners, along with some of the doctors, while those who resisted or tried to escape were executed.
http://prntscr.com/et0jgx
After the entire ship was rid of capitalist scum, more Bears were sent to staff the ship, and Andrei Yeltsin was made into Commisar. M.O.T.H.E.R. was reprogrammed to set a course for
Russian Shipyard Kladimir. Meanwhile, prisoners were forced into cleaning duty as the Commisars expect the ship to be clean upon arrival and inspection. More supplies were sent to assist with this endeavor.

http://prnt.sc/et0pkw
While the capitalist dogs were scrubbing the decks clean, the aliens had already taken over the planet. Xenos hijacked the Rasputin and crashed into the bridge. The IB reacted and attempted to retake the bridge. The alien forces were overwhelming at first, but one courageous Iron Bear suicide charged with 3 grenades, and the rest of the IBs inspired by his courage, started priming their nades as well, wiping out about half of the hostile invaders.
http://prnt.sc/et0qff
However, due to the hull breach and depressurization, the IBs were forced to pull out. Point defences were activated, self-destruct sequence was set, and escape pods were fueled for evac, as the surviving Bears made their way to the escape pods, along with some of the prisoners.

With 1 minute left on the timer, Pod 2 fell prey to the aliens while Pod 1 was turned into a gas chamber...

Re: Funny, Embarrassing, and General OMG Moments
With the Iron Bear take over mission, I was a Iron Bear who arrived as part of the second squad.
Minor point, I ended up spending nearly ten to twenty minutes in the medbay (can't remember how long) because a lone Hunter ambushed me in Chemistry after we repulsed the first attack. While I was lying on the surgical table (as the only Doctor was off not helping me) the Aliens eventually crashed a second ship into the Sulaco, just outside the Medbay (near bridge I assume).
When that crash happened, I simultaneously heard the screams of Xenos and the massive amounts of gun fire from the Russian soldiers, I don't know how but the sound being made was like music to my ears because it sounded great.
A shame I spent most of the round in surgery. Eventually a admin must've taken pitty on me as I was admin healed. Made my way to the escape pods in a Ripley suit but sadly the entire escape wing was xeno taken and all the Iron Bears were dead.

Re: Funny, Embarrassing, and General OMG Moments
Really our main problem with the xenos was the fucking crusher. IB's pretty much have 0 AP and only come with HE nades, not incediary ones, so he could pretty much endlessly charge, stomp, and drag someone away into a vacuum where they would die. It's what happened to me. You can even see the crusher dragging me away in one of the pictures.
I think that crusher killed me twice that round, both times in the EXACT same way. First time was as a marine spec with a smartgun, then as the IB sergeant. I got real lucky with my roles that round.

Re: Funny, Embarrassing, and General OMG Moments
XO ordered us BOs to oversee the ground that round. Reno was the first officer on the ground and I ended up joining him after Delta SL died covering the retreat of his squad at hydro at the same exact time Charlie SL was decapitated by a Pred. XO sent me down and I tried to manage LZ1 while Reno managed Nexus. As we fought on against the unending Xeno assault we got word that the ship has hijacked. The Russian leader had a command headset and confirmed it and told us we could surrender peacefully. We doubted they wouldn't just execute us in the rasp. Reno was a broken man and wanted to die fighting while I wanted to take the ship back. PO decided to run off and get themselves killed. We got the message only 7 Xenos were left and decided to take our chances and clear them out first. Of course the longer we held out the more Russian reinforcements arrived. During that time I was captured nested and broke out twice. I managed to escape from the nest at Cargo to the cover of the Rasp turrets and decided it was time to take off. Reno decided to stay behind. When I got to the ship with a handful of marines I was pretty messed up and infected and tried to broker a truce and get surgery. In the end I popped right outside the gulag.
I was also part of the cleaning supply drop. They put so many cleaning carts on the shuttle we were blocked in with no way out until they sent us away into space to re-dock so we could use the other door.
Not related to this round but I had one round as Bravo overwatch where they had FOB duty and a marine decided to cook some food his squad and I ordered him to make me steak and eggs and deliver it to me. He did along with some whiskey. Somehow I was able to drink my whiskey while preforming overwatch and talking to command without ever getting drunk.

Re: Funny, Embarrassing, and General OMG Moments
Ah yes, that was one hell of a round, and quite the tale, one that I am still impressed with even now.. At least, I think so...4thsurviver wrote:SNIP
It started like any other, waking up to be the only BO on the bridge. At first, it seemed like there was going to be no command staff whatsoever, but then the XO arrived, along with another BO. I was prepared for a simple day of BO, where I would overwatch a squad or two and provide tactical support like I normally do. However, the XO had different plans...
For whatever reason, he decided that I should be the field commander of the operation, leading the troops from the ground. I was not mentally prepared for this, but wasn't going to refuse (since it would be interesting to see how it would turn out), so I went and gathered my things before briefing, getting typical officer gear for RP's sake and nothing too outlandish (Like the smartgun that so many field commanders go out of their way to use). Afterwards, I had the pleasure of witnessing probably the worse briefing I seen in awhile, with command staff and the CL bickering and arguing, myself included in the lot. We barely got out of briefing alive, but once what was said was said, we deployed and got things underway.
The early round was a nightmare, with me struggling to juggle 4 squads on the ground and relay back to command, my headset constantly screaming in my ear as marines try to do their business. It was quite overwhelming trying to do a multitude of tasks at once, all while overwatching the construction of our HQ. Then the predators came, and decided to harass our marines, tormenting us with mind games and even killing a few marines. At one point, one even dragged a headless body through the center of HQ, which was quite demoralizing to witness for a poor, overworked BO such as myself. And then, as the fog dropped, Delta begun the skirmish with the aliens, with me shortly leading a squad of charlies to oversee the attack personally...
... Which lasted but a few minutes before I got terrified of the alien's might and called for a retreat, fleeing back to the Nexus while a few Deltas (including Delta leader) decided to stay, shortly dying in the process.
It was at this point that I assumed that we were going to die horribly in what seemed like a xeno steamroll, with the xenos shortly beginning their siege of the Nexus. While I had accepted that this round was lost, I still did my best to lead on, spouting constant morale boosters such as "STAND FIRM" and "BE BRAVE" and all that other field commander stuff to encourage the marines to keep fighting, since we couldn't just give up with 30+ marines still combat ready and a decently built FoB at Nexus waiting to be exploited. And so we fought on... For several hours.
It was very surprising, even to me, how the marines managed to push back the xenos time and time again. We killed so many of them, myself even helping to kill a crusher (and getting my foot smashed in the process). However, as the battle raged on, it seemed like the Nexus was destined to fail, with reinforcements and supplies dwindling away as the xenos threw themselves at us... And then the Russians attacked.
With the Sulico taken over by hostile russians, it seemed like all was lost. Having our supplies and reinforcements cut off meant that our loss was inevitable, and with our sentries running low on ammo and our pockets growing empty, I had to make a choice: Either surrender myself to the russians and accept life as a PoW, or stand and fight to the death with the xenos. My choice was to keep on fighting, if only to survive at this point now. Others decided to leave, but alas it didn't work out well for them.
Near the end of the siege, there were but a small handful of men left, one of them being the field doctor that was supposed to help mend our wounds, but who instead was forced into fighting alongside us due to the fact that there were hardly any men left to save. Me and my marry band of survivors fought viciously, myself still spewing words of inspiration as we prepared to die honorable, glorious deaths. And oh, how glorious it was when their queen came along and tried to scream us down, only to be CUT DOWN WITH OUR BLADES. Truly the most epic thing I was ever a part of, and what made me proudest of this battle: Shanking a queen with our bootknives.
Of course, shortly after her death, the xenos finally managed to break through and crush us, me putting up one final struggle as a sentinel dragged me out of the Nexus screaming and kicking, only to rip my head off after growing tired of my constant resistance. And thus was the end of Field Commander Story, keeping the men fighting bravely till the last drop of blood was spilled.
Some might just view this as another day, but that round was somethin special to me. I only hope I remembered it all correctly.
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.

Re: Funny, Embarrassing, and General OMG Moments
I was both a smartgunner that fought with you on the ground (I killed a solid 7 xenos, pretty robust round by my standards), and the IB sergeant.
I kinda felt bad for the marines. We fought so hard on the ground, such a great back and forth between humans and xenos. I eventually got cucked by a crusher charge, stomp, tacklespam into drag away. I joined the ert, became the sergeant, and then was made virtually the co of the sulaco, something I was NOT ready for. I didn't even know how to speak russian over comms.
Thankfully, the sulaco was severely undermanned. I walk into the bridge with my brave bears, determine that the marines are on the ground. I execute the xo with a few bullets to the back of the head. Then I send a message to General Secretary Feweh on the success of my OP after locking down the bridge, and he sends in reinforcements. We slaughter all the marines on the sulaco (I wanted to capture them, line them up, THEN gun them down, but my iron bears got trigger happy). We take over the sulaco, turn it into a gulag (thus my nickname), making feweh very proud. My iron bears were very competent, they did mostly everything by themselves, with Feweh's guidance im sure. I run around, rping russian cruelty with much fun. A doctor was getting yelled at by bears for not cleaning, but he couldnt because he had no cleaning supplies. I tell the bears "ill handle this" in russian. I pull out my revolver and tell him "you know what happens now." I shoot and *click.* Me and the bears have a good laugh at the doctors expense, and we make him pick up shrapnel with his bare hands. I had also executed a few more unruly prisoners with my revolver.
Then the aliens attacked, which the brave bears fought back against valiantly, killing the queen, but we had no AP to deal with the crusher, so I got cucked AGAIN in the EXACT SAME WAY. Maybe even the same damn crusher lol. Shame we all died, that was an IB major in the making.
On that topic, is that the closest we've ever been to an IB major?
Also @Feweh, I was very proud to be your commissar, and I'll do it again ANYDAY.

Getting PMC Smart Gunner on a distress call, then during a fight with the Xeno's, accidentally walk in front of PMC sniper and take a super sonic armor piercing bullet to the mouth. (Surprisingly, I survived, but lungs gave out shortly after)

I was queen for that round and let me tell you, we struggled TREMENDOUSLY! Marines never bothered to flank our position, and kept streaming down the same hallway into boilers artillery fire and my screech for a solid 2 hours. We massacred dozens. That round was intense and tiring though, makes me want to take a looooong break from CM.

I was a Runner, then a Elite Sentinel going onto Ancient Sentinel that round. Kept neuroing marines to keep them from thinking of rushing in, dragging back hosts, and nesting as many marines as I could.
Fun run tbh; I love a hive that is on the brink of collapse since every xeno that has survived till that point is a competent player and has your back for whatever plays you make.

It is a very tiring role, one that you won't play often, but when you do, deep down every other marine respects your bravery for tackling such a role so that they can enjoy the war on the surface...
... At least until they get combathugged, then they just start slinging shit at you.
And you wonder why I don't go CO/SL more often?
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.

That's a pretty noble thing to do. I'd suggest you tally up your stats to keep track. I dunno if I myself would ever CO on Ice Colony, it's a tough map that many marines aren't accustomed too, and I think the win rate is a lot less than LV.Monoo wrote:I'm trying to make the most of my whitelisted position and play at least one round of command a day, and fill the CO spot whenever it's empty
I'm going to add a little constructive criticism. I saw quite a few SLs fighting us down there, so I'm assuming you had access to their cams. You should have looked at the Ice Colony map and planned a flank waaaaaaay earlier and ended it. There was no need for it to last three hours. Hell I even saw Xur go down there and get beat up multiple times, and then revived constantly. Whoever set the turret up in the hallway (not sure if that was your order or not) was a smart move, but it came too late when the marines were all mostly dead. This is what the battle looked like for the first two hours.Monoo wrote:that put a huge damper on my drive to play. I spent so much time running the bridge alone...
Actually now that I think about it, it might be an interesting tactic to have turrets in maint tunnels set to 360 to cover flanks. Anyway, that round sounded hectic, and from what I saw the marines were well supplied with ammo, helmets, and weapons so kudos for that!

I appreciate the criticism, man. I don't have very much of an excuse for not taking those advantages, but I did try to organize two different flanks which failed because of lack of manpower. In the end I just ordered an all out attempt to kill your boilers, because they were the sole thing keeping your hive protected. Props to those very skilled boilers, by the way.Rocco Ward wrote:I'm going to add a little constructive criticism. I should probably study the underground map a little more, I'll admit I'm not the most familiar with it...

My advice is never use 360 because it's got a 3 tile range, you're better off putting more men, mines or multiple turrets in those positions.Rocco Ward wrote:Actually now that I think about it, it might be an interesting tactic to have turrets in maint tunnels set to 360 to cover flanks.

Mines I could see being pretty useful and serving the same purpose, plus if combined with the turret you've pretty much going to kill any xeno that isn't a crusher. The main point though is to prevent xenos from using maint tunnels to run away/assault marines from underground. Having a turret set to 360 at a maint intersection will block it off pretty well for T1's and T2's, and most T3's are going too be busy fighting the main attacking marine forces.Karmac wrote:My advice is never use 360 because it's got a 3 tile range, you're better off putting more men, mines or multiple turrets in those positions.

The issue I find is that xenos usually prioritize turrets over marines, this doesn't always happen, I just find it to be a common issue, I reckon you'd have mixed success.Rocco Ward wrote:Mines I could see being pretty useful and serving the same purpose, plus if combined with the turret you've pretty much going to kill any xeno that isn't a crusher.
