Why would you ever whitelist anything on this server other than the preds? Also, like I have said before, putting timelocks on marine roles do not equal better players for the position. Especially if they are new players, as sad as it is to realize, the only way to improve is to make mistakes. If you timelock combat positions you aren't improving the quality of the players and you maybe, just maybe, prevent one or two griefers and grey tiders a month or so.Haveatya wrote:RO, BO, and XO don't really need to be restricted. XO gets overruled by CO and is a good place for people to get command experience. 3 days isn't much at all. 7 or 14 definitely seems good for SPC, SL, CO. CL i never thought about but that might be an actual white list role even if we went with a timelock. CLs get interesting RP opportunities and leaving trusted players the role may be the best way to not get crazy murder goons or silent thiefs in there but actual rp friendly liaisons.

Re: Whitelisting SL, CO, Spec
I think whether SL, SPCs and CLs should be whitelisted is debatable. SLs can be in control of a fair number of players' faith, and whereas a good squadleader could make for a coordinate effort free of metagaming, a new, inexperienced or disruptive player could put a bad spin on a round in a timeframe of 20 minutes. (how many times have you seen SLs head straight for the most likely locations for alien hives or squads simply disolve into a chaotic state within a few minutes of landing?)Snypehunter007 wrote: Why would you ever whitelist anything on this server other than the preds? A Specialist can be argued to be somewhat of a leadership position, I mean a player could eventually be put in charge of a squad somewhere down the line. Buuut I think we could very well make do with a bad leader at that stage, whether it be for OOC or IC reasons. Can't put a safety net on every role, for a multitude of reasons and it's not too far fetched to say that specialists aren't meant to properly fill in for Sergeants and put on a performance that's up to par.
CL is a role highly dependable on an active player, one that understands how to engage in roleplay without it being spoonfed. Furthermore it's a role that requires a thick skin, as not every player will be susceptible to slow(er) RP and thus always comes with the risk of being secluded from the other players, if no one stops and takes a moment to interact with the CL. On the other hand, CLs are not a position where they could badly influence in an entire round, at least for the most part. The worst he could do is grief, which is an OOC issue or send off faulty reports and try to provoke a chain reactions. If the reports well done and it amounts to something; more power to them, if not, it'll more often than not simply be ignored or swatted away.
But COs, XOs and BOs have a great influence from the get-go. They set the mood, nevermind the objectives for a large player portion of the server. They can tinker pretty much with every sub-division, leave a mission in complete chaos or have it reek of metagame. The game requires their commanding players to at least have some understanding of the server mechanics, and better yet, some merit in regards as how to perform as a supervisor. A whitelist, that can be achieved by screening applicants can do wonders to improve the quality of rounds in that regard. Like I said, and this is me personally, I'd rather have none of the above (CO, XO etc) during a round, than being under the impression that my character's faith is being controlled by a narcissistic 12 year old. It's a huge immersion breaker and it's almost a guaranteed 2-4 hour round waste when a bad command member takes charge of the game's direction. And that is why I would like certain roles other than the Predators whitelisted.

Re: Whitelisting SL, CO, Spec
I wanna bring a little input. Just made account can join as CO. I have suggested whitelists based on time on crucial roles monthes ago and it was denied without any sensible reason.
Hope this one will be listened to.

CO has been whitelisted and will Soon (TM) be open to applications.
Asking this to be locked though as SL and Spec most likely will not be whitelisted.

What happens if you are in a low-pop round without a CO, XO and BOs?

Nothing much, actually. MP can get command headset and they have access to transport, so, not much of a problem.

Re: Whitelisting SL, CO, Spec
I agree with Snype...Just because we lock it, doesn't mean you'll get people who don't suck at the roll. But, people have to learn it some day or another. Maybe you'll take a sniper or two to the face but hell like we haven't all been there in their shoes. I'm not going to bother with bridge rolls cus I like ayys and doctors, but still. -1 From me. Let people learn how to play these roles. There really can only be one way. (But +1 for CO, no Balder "Bald" Bladinston as CO)

I used to hate whitelists, but then I saw it work really well on Aurora, so now I'm neutral.

-1, maybe for SL, but people arent gonna be able to train for commanding roles if they cant do things like spec and SL ya know what I mean. I just disagree overall.

BOs are enough for people to train being in command role before occupying CO slot.Kneez wrote:-1, maybe for SL, but people arent gonna be able to train for commanding roles if they cant do things like spec and SL ya know what I mean. I just disagree overall.
SL and Spec is other thing. usually, if sL is bad, everyone ignore him and he die all alone somewhere.

Huge -1 to this whole idea.

Re: Whitelisting SL, CO, Spec
CO is now whitelisted. The others are probably going to stay as they are for now.
