Re: Does anyone even USE throwing knives?
I usually only use throwing knives when I'm an spec and am feeling useless and then proceed to buy an sniper rifle(marksman even) and proceed to charge into battle trying to 360 noscope xenos one tile in front of me with my sniper(I actually click clockwise around my character to "360") and fill my bag with m4a3 pistols cause why reload when you've got 50 fucking pistols...but then half of the time I'm throwing my bayonet rather than my throwing knives.

I use them for RP purposes or just fucking with people. Saul's thing is to play with a throwing knife during quiet times or briefing. Chucking them into people is a hoot too but I've severely dropped my numbers of intentional TK FF.

Re: Does anyone even USE throwing knives?
I would love to see throwing knives as an accessory, except then every standard would take them. Although, I feel like the ensuing throwing knife FF would balance things out a bit for the aliens. Preds would be the main casualty of this change.
Anyone know if throwing knives do more damage than thrown bayonets? Not looking for damage values obviously, just wondering if theres any reason to have a throwing knife in my pocket instead of another standard knife.

They're good steak knives for your MREs.
I play as this guy, proudly being dismembered by extraterrestrials since 2015.
Sometimes I might play other guys, you never know.

Re: Does anyone even USE throwing knives?
Well i sometimes throw a bayonet from my boot it works same as a throwing knife. Belt need more knifes in it thought. It's weird to have only 4 knifes as they weight less then mags.

I tend to go for either pistol or revolver belt instead.

Re: Does anyone even USE throwing knives?
I remember killing a Crusher after it has stomped me multiple times, making me lose my weapon, I brought out my Combat Knife, Slashed it. My knife got taken from me (tackled) then I used a throwing knife repeatedly (literally picked it up a few times) and critted it.

Re: Does anyone even USE throwing knives?
Throwing knives will only be useful when there is a high chance to embed them into xenos for lightly armored xenos. And xenos with embedded knives get no plasma regen / heals from weeds and you have to resist for a couple of seconds to pull one out, which will also some damage when being pulled out.
You might think this is OP, but thats the reward you should get for using throwable weapons that are just as limited in number as SADAR rockets (considering you have to give up a ammo belt slot and the knife rig only has 4 slots from what I last saw of it). You are better off just grabbing a shotgun and going in close with it than risking throwing knives, and that crusher story could be done easily with normal bayonet anyway so *shrug

I did once to try and kill a predator. He ended up grabbing them them mid-air and tossing it back at me and I ended up getting impaled with my own knives. That was fun.

Re: Does anyone even USE throwing knives?
I use throwing knives, i stuff my bag full of them because the one good thing is that their hit code is pretty much "is the knife and the creature on the same tile?". and scince i cant hit anything with guns, i just throw stuff and hope i scare aliens away. I have scared away several creatures and really hurt a predator once, but i have not killed a single alien with them, mostly its because it takes so long to grab and throw the knives, and 4 just isnt enough imo. Idk, i might also be bad, that could also be a high prob case.
If i had to take a swing at throwing knives, i would buff them by:
-Change knife belt to act like marine boots, one-click to pop out a knife, one click to put it back in. shift examine tells you how many knives are in the belt.
-Belt holds 5-6 knives.
-chance to impale a xeno, which just inflicts a small amount of damage when jostled, nothing more nothing less. (more knives stuck, more knives hurt)
-Knife belt changed to knife harness? idk, i kind of like the belt, but some people would want a harness. if i had to change it, make it a harness and then alter the ammobelt to carry knives as well. I cant lie though, pound for pound, the ammobelt outweighs the knifebelt 10 to 1 as they say.

Gaze upon me,
for I have wandered deep into the ancient tombs of knowledge to which lie madness and sorrow, cleansing a path for all those who walk behind me...
...
But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!

Having throw intent on lets you catch thrown objects 100%, just keep a hand open and have throw intent on to catch the knife when they try to throw it back, and repeat.skhul wrote:I did once to try and kill a predator. Higher embed chance and higher damadge when thrown, lower damadge when stabbing and less embed.rev_benji wrote:I would love to see throwing knives as an accessory, except then every standard would take them. Sometimes I use throwing knives when I take down akimbo revolvers.

Re: Does anyone even USE throwing knives?
I've used them a couple of times, they knock some chunks off of Ravagers, and they're good for handling Crushers, but that's only when I can get a decent amount of light. I just carry them with me in case I run into hostile humans and need something to break their bones and slow them down. They SLOW down targets and cause GREAT damage, to HUMANS whose physiology actually is weakened by these steel death machines. Pulling them out causes far more damage, and moving with them causes damage over time. The kicker is you can poison them with a ton of shit like toxin or hyperzine and actually cause greater damage to hem without the need to throw another knife, but because of how we get our logs and we know how to spot a griefer, this is basically childs splay.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Yeah I didn't know when I first started playing and it really sucked. I didn't mind since the guy did a really good job in roleplaying and made me a slave because I didn't want to duel. Eventually i got bored and tried too and well I got shit on.Aredal wrote:Having throw intent on lets you catch thrown objects 100%, just keep a hand open and have throw intent on to catch the knife when they try to throw it back, and repeat.

Re: Does anyone even USE throwing knives?
They are really effective in humans and predators,if you hit a predator enough he eventually goes crit and if he moves too much,he will get pretty much lotta pain and a broken bone,so i always take 2 throwing knives in my armor incase pred wishes to hunt ooman,i use them sometimes on crushers, still prefer buckshot and melee however, only use knives to not get stomped and hugged.
I play Sydney 'Lilly' Wood, the totally not depressed doctor, And the marine Dylan Bell, that probably joined the USCM by accident.
