Watch Aliens again. The xenomorphs didn't leave resin and weeds in the main building or outside in random places, they only put it in their nest area inside the terraforming building. It makes no sense for them to expect people to be coming and to prepare for it. Building anything at all south of the river is definitely meta for the Xeno's before encountering marines. A few runners/hunters scouting and searching for lingering survivors makes sense, as long as they don't just group up and wait near the landing pads to meta grab people right when the ship lands. Those scouts should be running around solo, covering both sides of the river or just north of it if the Queen doesn't think it's worth bothering to scout the colony, before the marines are spotted.
Xeno's shouldn't know which apc's are important, so hiding at the magic smes and slipping in to slash the tcomms apc is blatant meta. If they get inside tcomms, they would know its comm equipment, but not from outside it when the shutters are closed so they'd have no reason to melt said shutters when hiding on the ship. When they assault, sure they go after everything. Aliens hiding should mostly just be building hidden nests (so slashing the apc in the room if it has one), not sabotaging systems. They should also be exploring the ship to give the hive a layout, but trying to keep a low profile so not melting everywhere they go.
When is something TOO meta?
