What's the downside of splinting?
I splint their head, chest and a leg and they run back to fight seemingly without any disadvantage. Plus they can't break it again. I wonder why is it not a thing to splint every marine everywhere before they go into the battle. They are not insects, but looks like the splint-exoskeleton works well. Is there any reason to go back to the Sulaco for a surgery?

Slow you down, Dont remove the existing penalty for having the broken bone, still can take damage to the bone and break further, still can get delimbed. I don't know specifically if the various splints do things but I do know that its not particularly worth splinting everything before a fight.

Okay so, as a Medic I prefer to splint injuries, rather than send you back up for surgery, but that's usually because the damage the breakage is causing you isn't a serious danger just yet, gradually, you will slowly take damage from the breakage, and if you have a broken hand, you'll still drop shit randomly, it's just less likely. It's literally just a dumpster-doc's best friend to get you back in the fight, so Medical can focus on more important things/people.

splinting is fine and dandy but at one point your gonna need surgery to get those bones fixed. A broken head makes your head more succeptable to decaps, arms and hands make you drop stuff randomly, legs make you slower and chest makes you drop stuff and freeze for a second every now and again. It's good for specs during the FOB defense but if nothing's happening surgerys better

There are many downsides, because splinting doesn't fix the actual problem, it just prevents it from getting worse by itself. A stray bullet or claw, however, can easily help it along.

I always tend to splint people until they are fucked to the point where they have multiple splints (around 3-4) or are just organ damaged in general.
