Differentiate satchels from backpacks (and smocks too)

Post by Sad_Corn » 12 Dec 2016, 12:30

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Give gameplay differences from using a backpack, satchel or smocks. (
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):

More divesity to CM gameplay, with marines with rail scope using a backpack, to carry more ammo and keep camping at a FOB, or a QF+Charger+Grip marine using the satchel to have more speed when rushing xenos.

Backpack difference:
Using a backpack, you would be able to have 4 item slots, now being able to carry 11 itens instead of 7. Using a backpack would have a speed debuff, since it's heavier than the satchel

Satchel difference:
Using a satchel, you would be able to carry only 6 itens isntead of 7, but would have a speed buff, since it's a smaller than a backpack.

Smock difference:

The smock would be the middle between backpack and stachel, basically 7 slots without speed buff or debuff.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Magic, always, and add the satchels to prep vendors

Edit: Add the satchels to the prep vendors too

On May 17, 2016, a group of farmers dug up the diary of an ear of corn named Watson. Here are his entries.

Day 76:
They took Lawrence, dear god Lawrence... They ripped him off the stalk and smeared him in butter, just like Tyler and Jodie. They shipped him off to the popcorn factory...
I wonder what his wife will say.

Day 120: My brother says the VEGANS are protesting for more anti-meat bullshit. They want more of us to die. FUCKING HEATHENS.

Day 153: The ants are eating me from the inside out. They are popping out my kernels and taking them back to the nest. I feel them moving inside me. Julia says the pesticides will end our misery.

Day 300: Sweet Release. I can hear the planes flying over now. They are dropping the gas, it feels so good, sweet release-

My issue with this is that all marines spawn with backpacks by default. What you are saying would slow down all marines except the few that have access to satchels, which is currently medics/engineers/SLs, and doctors/the PO, and command staff. Basically, this would nerf all standard marines and specs that don't take sniper, because of how important every bit of speed is in CM. Unless, of course, they add satchels to the marine prep vendors, but then what special backpack would SLs get to differentiate them? All in all, I'm a -1 to this.

Already edited to put satchels on prep vendors, thanks. SL's already have a HUGE armor difference between them and standard marines, you can identify them just by looking on the helmet.

Well, that helmet only blocks two huggers. A single xeno can break your helmet just by carrying two huggers.

This is kind of a thing on TG, if you wear a backpack, i think you have normal speed, (or just very, very slightly lower to the point you can't notice a difference) if you wear a satchel, i belive it increases your speed, and a dufflebag slows you down quite a lot, but can make you carry a bit more items (although it still depends on weight of the items you carry)

Not sure if this is possible on bay12 to do, but if it is, would be preety nice (and more ammo eating)

We are considering a few things on how to differentiate them, but that's probably far away. Resolved for now.
