Fobs and the lack of defences
hello marines, this thread is about the FOBs and the lack of defences in them. For some reason SLs think its good to have a single line of defence and no fallback points and think that's a good defence.me being an imperial fist spess muhreen nerdI love planning out defences and when I see these they kinda make me gag.the most recent one they had a single line of plasteel barricades with ALL 4 turrets on them that they stole from other squads. When I confronted the SL on why he allowed his men to think THAT was a good defence and why we have no fallback points at all.his response was that the enemy have to get through "4 sentries and 20 marines" and they'd never do this.at this point we'd seen all the xenos (bar the queen and boiler) and when I told him about the xenos we'd seen and how 1 bullet out of 3 marines 60 round mags went through his armor he responded with "its okay,my men are decked out in all AP ammo".great, now we have a bad squad with all our AP guarding the FOB.My question is simple. Why do people let these bad defences go without saying a thing? any and all answers will be read and thought about when I come to my final conclusion.

Re: Fobs and the lack of defences
In the actual real-life military, FOB guarding is pretty boring. And it's also true in CM. I'd guess that one of two things is happening:
1. Subconsciously (or consciously) they are bored out of their minds sitting at Nexus, so they make bad defenses so if Aliens do attack it'd be more exciting.
2. They are legitimately bad at making defenses because CM is one of the most popular SS13 servers especially during off-time from school, so a lot of pubbies come in.

Re: Fobs and the lack of defences
One line of defense is usually what typical engineers do.
Sometimes people can be very odd at times with defenses.
It's generally the lack of creativity to blame here.

A good engineer can save a mission, if they construct a good FOB.

Re: Fobs and the lack of defences
After playing engineer quite a few rounds now, I can definitely say it's half and half. I can build the coolest, most well constructed doom bunker inside of engineering or fortify the west, though most of the time only one marine will ever bother actually manning it.
Usually what happens then is that 1) that one marine is easily overrun, or 2) he also fucks off because solo guarding a flank is boring as shit (3), predator blows it up )
I could cover the flanks with wooden tables and defensive walls made out of toothpicks and superglue and still no one would want to cover it. Delegating marines to stand at a certain post also does nothing because doing that assumes they'll actually listen to their SL.
"If it's not the northern flank, then it's obviously not a good flank to guard" - sic standard marine.
