Sprite discussion: 12-30-16

So, as colonial marines goes on, were seeing the palate sheet slowly grow out. Scince its been about 6 months scince the last discussion, whats peoples current opinions on the art direction.

imo, it looks like were moving away from the hard retro pixel outlines of ss13 into a more color blended modern pixel style. I think it looks pretty good.

Apop has said this in staff chat, that EVERYONE IS GONNA DUNK ON ANY NEW SPRITES THAT SEEM ODD.

It's just change really.

Doesn't affect gameplay in any major way.

Someone will not like what the devs will make and others simply won't care/support it.

The spriters have been making the graphics look more realistic and that's what I assume they're going for.

Eh, salt only happened when xeno sprites changed. Now they're awesome.

The sprites could stand to be buggy less (ie xenos being seen in darkness, grilles having a black tile at the far left side, xenos being seen inside a wall tile when next to it, dead xenos looking like crit xenos) but they look good enough to eat off of for the most part. The sprites would change faster if we mayhaps took on more spriters but that isn't my call. I'm rather torn about the "needing more dev members" part since the more spriters you have, the bigger the gap in art style from each person.

tl;dr Sprites are good. Things still need changed.

the detail in the new sprites is impeccable, like how on an alien drone there is a skull in the crest deal, and if you look at the hivelord and the drone you can actually see it, I mean damn that level of attention at a pixel level is just awesome.

If they could fix the gibbing animations that'd be great, there's only like two different ones, if every xeno sprite could have its own gibbing animation that'd be awesome.

this would be nice,or perhaps a smaller gibbing sprite and one for the runner and crusher which is on all fours?

I will also add, the firesuits look so nice, really just mmm tasty.

If i had to pick some flaws to pick on, theres still alot of ancient sprites that need to be purged ( janitor buckets anyone?) and also the UI for alot of items could be either be reworked to have a more Aliens feel, or just worked on in general to take out the ugly white-blue text boxes.

If you thought the last Xeno Sprites were detailed you should see the ones Fridge is working on now.

I'm honestly not sure how he gets so much detain into such a small space.

We do have a list, and we are going though them. We have a big one we are working on ATM that will change a LOT of stuff if/when it goes in.
