Cloning Iteration

Post by Sarah_U. » 01 Jan 2017, 23:55

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Make cloning an high-end research for when the cloning removal update arrive.
Automatically warrent the expedition of W-Y pmcs and/or W-Y missions to steal/capture the technology if found (Admin intervention).

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
This would allow for more late-game research.
This would give an additional purpose for the CL.
This would add a once in a while flavour.
If made difficult enough this would push the marines and Rsr into working on it hard.
Various other benefits, including the addition of more depth to research.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
If the marines acquire exhausive levels of research levels they can begin doing low-tier cloning.
Cloning is tedious and long. Generally much less efficient than a skilled surgeon can revive people.
Cloning restore lost limbs and may provide bad health conditions at low level.
All ideas, please do as you please.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
[n/a]
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

This actually sounds like a really cool idea IMO.

+1 if it can be reasonably implemented in a balanced way.

+1, especially if you need materials from the colony to be collected to create the cloner (such as the ores north of the river)

+!. I'd like to point out that if this needs particularly high research levels, you would probably need those materials to get those levels anyways, but having this rely on those materials would mean that xenos can just...melt them all, first thing, leaving no chance for marines to get such research levels.

If a single or two researchers can research it on a ship during a single mission, how couldn't WY in research facilities with much more funds and hundreds of scientist research it? It would be more interesting if there was an unmovable cloner on the colony and marines had to hold it if they want the benefit. I would also add other goodies to other facilities so holding the planet would give more chance to win than hangar defenses.

unmovable cloner on the colony...so the xenos can melt it away before the marines even land? xenos will also camp it to stop marines even though they have no idea what the machine is.

-1 to that post

+1 to the suggestion

Kind of an interesting idea. Research itself needs a lot of thought still.

To reply to some criticizm; W-Y haven't globally spread the knowledge of Xenomorph's existence. They veto'd the information with the high rankings of the government and usually hide all their 'secret research programs' as far as possible. If marines had to get their hands on the cloners, they'd most likely leak the technology and leak some of the W-Y's advance. All this, leading to potential W-Y competition, which W-Y most likely don't want since they have most of the scientific monopolies in the known universe (for mankind).

Also, cloning is an highly theorical system in the Alien franchise. The few times cloners are mentionned it's douzens if not hundreds of years after the first movies and even then they're pretty much frowned at due to the mishaps that could occur. Imagine if you were cloned like Ripley in the fourth move-- Forgive me if that movie doesn't exist, just imagine it --How would you feel if to get you back there was a need of 7 to 13 bodies just to get you back, all of them being conscious beings with HORRIBLE DIFFORMITIES... Yes the DNA was highly stained by Xenomorph DNA, but it was still a complex process.

Anyway, the idea's there, and I think everyone can enjoy the idea of high-end research cloning.

+1. I like it; makes doing research actually compelling depending on how good the cloning actually is.

+1, very tasteful take on cloning.

I really like your idea of balancing it by making W-Y interested in the technology, would be interesting to see the CL's RP situations resulting from this. Also making cloning take like 2x as long as it did prior to removal and other things would make it more balanced so that it is still doctor's priority to save people rather than let them expire and then clone (even though I didn't see that very often before the update).

Denied for now. We are rethinking research.
