any tips for gettin' gud?
Ok i've been on SS13 for QUITE a while, but i'm still not robust at combat, like, i can knife people and stuff PRETTY DANG WELL as self defense, but in CM i can't really do that, and my aim ALWAYS MISSES, I QUITE LITERALLY can't shoot to save my life. Any tips for better accuracy or just general marine tips or "how to git gud" tips?

Well, there's a shooting range and you can read some guides, but ultimately it's about practice.

Play as xeno to understand how they moves and behave. You will learn with time how to stay safe as marine. For now - focus on helping and assisting others, this game is made so you can't 1v1 Aliens.

Re: any tips for gettin' gud?
I´ll give you some tips:
1.- ¨Wise man says, only fools rush in¨, dont rush, stay with your pals, if you rush, you´re dead
2.- Dont shoot; With this, i mean, if you´re in a group with more marines, dont shoot unless you´re 100% sure that you will hit the alien, and not your friends.
3.- OBEY, your SL, he most of the time know what to do.
4.- Dont use AP ammo, leave the AP to the people that know how to use it (Or take just 1 or 2 clips and save them for mid/late game, dont use it with runners)
5.- Aim for the chest, if you aim for the head, yes you cause a little more damage to aliens, but you cause A WHOLE LOT of damage to marines if you FF
6.- Give ammo, if you´re with more than 3 clips, give your ammo to a marine without ammo (Give him two or 3 clips, not your whole ammo belt)
7.- Protect your SL/Spec the spec and the SL are vital pieces in the fight, the SL it´s the eyes of command, and the Spec it´s the guy with the funny toys, the must stay safe.
8.- Help the medics, drag the VERY wounded people to FOB, (With a roller, a body bag or a chair), dont push the medics when they are healing/Splinting, dont yell at them :¡TRAMADOL, TRAMADOL, WERE´S MA TRAMADOL!.
9.- Use the right Attachments, probably you dont hit because you have the wrong attachments, if you use M4, use a mag harness, and a grip/extended barrel
10.- Observe the other players, i mean, the good ones, look how they shoot and retreat, what movements they do and stuff like that
11.- Dont stab people in the head trying to take out a hugger (I did that, sorry everyone)
12.- Dont take the hugger of the head of a marine, that causes 25 brute damage and can broken the skull, just set help intent and shake them up, so they can use a bayoned in the head and take out the hugger safely
13.- Put a bayonet in your boot, bayonet can save your life, as says in 12
14.- If a marine doesnot have a bayoned and it´s hugged, give him yours, he need him more than you rightnow, and hopefully he will return it to you and will not just steal it (That never happens, i always got my bayo stealed, but still, do it)
15.- If you´re an MP and you see Noah Kirhcher, ejecute him on sight, dont let him go, he will fuck your life badly. (I´m kidding)
16.- Always Ahelp if you need to know something, most of the time, the mentors will help you.

Don't spam fire with the M41. You'll never hit anything that you're aiming at. Click, wait a small time, then fire again. This time can be reduced or eliminated with attachments that increase accuracy or decrease recoil (RDS and foregrip, for respective examples).

Hi there,
I think this guide will be pretty handy for you on the aiming department.
My advice would be to keep your gun on single shot and switch to burst if an alien is within five tiles and there's no friendlies in the way of your fire.

Re: any tips for gettin' gud?
You need to lead your shots depending on what your target is and how they're moving. Don't underestimate the effects of volume of fire either, even if you're not hitting your target, suppressing fire can be helpful against the softer, more swift targets. You are also far more likely to hit your mark if you actually click on it, rather than try and click on the tile or the tile behind it. There are, of course, situations in which you don't want to click your target. Using a buckshot shotgun, for example, is a situation in which you'd find yourself better off clicking on a tile behind your target. That breaks off into more advanced mechanics, however.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

Re: any tips for gettin' gud?
Lead your targets. If a xeno is moving, aim for the tile ahead of him.
Pack extended barrel on your gun. It's the second least taken attachment and more robust than it's given credit.
Don't fucking shoot at a marine with a xeno on top of him. The paincrit is too much and the xeno normally moves after the pounce or the marine will.
Let your SADAR spec know how expendable you are. A trade for an ancient xeno for one Standart is worth it.
Keep an eye on your Line of Fire. Bullets miss xenos more than marines.

Macros are god send. I didn't think I would need them, but they really help and give you that one second edge that might just save your life.

Make macros and LEARN THEM. I have no idea how I played CM before without em (Always got rekt'd) Anything from quick reloading, to quick grab, to quick knife, to even a dance bind (Cause Aliens gotta partay)
A very straight forward answer would be to hop on, play a bunch of rounds and learn from trial and error. I use to get shitted on before without ever getting a kill or feeling like I contributed somewhat for the first month or two. You will eventually learn what loadouts work for you, what don't. That panic you get when you get when you see an Alien, especially a fucking hunter will eventually turn to confidence. (Unless it's an Elite/Ancient, then RUN FAR THE FUCK AWAY) Oh and STAY WITH YOUR SQUAD! AND DON'T, I REPEAT, DON'T FUCKING SHOOT THEM! >:(

Rail flashlights are always worth having over no rail attachment. It's brighter than your armor light and still works when your gun is on your armor or in a pocket (with the holdout pistol).

Re: any tips for gettin' gud?
Recognize a ravager-crusher charge and move to the side, NOT behind you. Recognizing when they are about to dash makes surviving a ravager encounter much more likely. I always try to position myself at a ravager's diagonal, never in a straight line from it.
Along the same lines, always be aware of the Queen/Empress moving forward and always retreat when she does, because she is almost certainly going to screech.
If your position is being bombarded from out of sight and it doesn't seem like the enemy is numerous, sallying forth can be very advantageous. Boilers are weak and slow, and their acid spray doesn't reach more than about 5 tiles. I've learned this lesson playing while playing boiler and being approached by a single marine. When I retreated, he could follow me and spray bullets into me. When I tried to get closer to do an acid spit, he could easily stay on the edge of my screen and shoot me from afar.
All these tips have to do with spacing. The space between you and the xenos is what keeps you alive (things are different when you're running buckshot).
edit: Get good at Street Fighter or Skullgirls or something and you'll probably dominate in this game. The spacing, timing, and prediction you need to succeed in those games are much closer to SS13 combat than a shooter or something.

I've seen mods/admins throw a fit about this one as being meta/a glitch, so don't do this one.LarryOrtega wrote: 12.- Dont take the hugger of the head of a marine, that causes 25 brute damage and can broken the skull, just set help intent and shake them up, so they can use a bayoned in the head and take out the hugger safely
The rest are 10/10, will git gud from.
Also, some general rules of thumb:
If you touch down at 1230 or later, it's gg Xenos Major, just do your best.
Also, with medics (which I always main as whenever I can because I suck at pvp), health analyzer is your friend. More often than not you're gonna be using quick clot, tramadol, advanced trauma kits, and kelotane. I tend to grab two pill bottles of kelotane and tuck them in my armor pockets so I don't forget where they go. Plus, while pills are a little slower, the higher dosages of kelotane help in fixing up anyone who gets facefucked by a Boiler cloud.

Re: any tips for gettin' gud?
1. Don't take AP unless you are confident in your ability to not shoot marines.
2. NEVER aim for the head unless you are fighting a hostile human player. And again, only if youre confidence to not shoot friendly marines.
3. If you see a marine get hugged, drag him from the front line and take it off. (By dragging his sprite to yours.)
4. Always stay with you squad and don't wander from them. Being alone could easily mean death even for competent marines.

Re: any tips for gettin' gud?
You can pull a human out of a nest by clicking on the nest. In the event that you've been nested with other people (rare with experienced xenos), pulling them out should be the first thing you do if it's feasible. More marines means more guns blazing and more targets that the xenos need to take out. Make sure to communicate your intentions beforehand so that they 're ready to go. Also, if you're trying to run around after being freed from a nest, distance yourself from them so that a xeno can't tackle and immediately nest you. This might give you another opportunity to stand up and run.

Engineer Protip: If you manage to grab the brown webbing from engineering section of sulaco lockers, you won't need a toolbelt anymore. You can now fit all your tools in the webbing and suit slots, leaving you room for an ammo belt.

1.Get a shotgun
2.Load it with shells
3.Get a barrel charger from Requistion
4.*Important* Always stand behind your squad, only fire when someone got knocked down by hunter, runner stun time is short you could end up with blasting your mate head off, unless that's your intention

Re: any tips for gettin' gud?
If you become a spec and take the SADAR, have a grunt or your loyal SL stand alone somewhere were xenos often patrol and then light him up once some unlucky xeno pounces upon him. Make sure you're a great distance away from him though, otherwise the xenos will not go for the bait. Also don't do it if it's a runner. Hunter's often realise what they've done when it's too late because of their stun time.
Just some funny moments.
