Triage cards for medics

Post by UltimateShrekFan » 12 Jan 2017, 17:43

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Add an item for medics that allows them to chose between four cards(white, red, yellow, and green) that can be stuck to mobs to quickly identify their condition.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): It would speed up the unloading of the pod/rasp and, hopefully, allow marines needing urgent care to get transported to medbay quicker than at present.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): It would be a singular item with an unlimited amount of cards. To switch between cards, you would use the interact with item key, like you were switching between modes on a shovel. When placed on a marine it would put the selected colour's card on the torso of the mob. The card should be visible enough to see clearly. The cards shouldn't be removed until they are placed in a clone scanner or advanced body scanner.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): If there are stickers in the code, it could piggy back off of their code, sort of.

SOunds nice, +1.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

Personally like the idea of medics receiving something to help triage color code their patients in the field, and this would certainly help doctors to personal identifying whom is more severely in need of more attention more, whether it's broken bones to specific regions. Internal organs to etc. Although in the critical cases i'd expect a field surgeon or medic to stay nearby stabilizing till they're relieved by returning to the Sulaco for more advance treatment.

Now whilst this wouldn't help if they're all piled upon the same tile in pain, we could at least treat them somewhat more. Good functional medbay could also assist there whilst also getting an idea of what state they're in, ontop of it. Such as although their injures may have recovered upon the ground, if there's a broken ribcage, head, etc with risk of internal organ damage, could say it's more of a yellow code but not as life threatening. Their conditions may vary somewhat from what's color coded initially to arrival.

You mean like, IDK, the medical HUD scanners? Which already tell you the patients condition?

It's more for non-medical marines unloading the pod/Rasp. You usually get groups of marines dragging other marines off of the Rasp or pod and dragging corpses into medbay proper or dragging corpses before they drag wounded, resulting in their deaths. If they've been properly traiged, marines wishing to help out will no longer have to play the examine-examine-examine-drag game.

If marines aren't going to pull wounded, SSD, or corpses off the pod/Rasputin when it comes up, I don't think they are going to bother with Triage cards.

Thats the exact opposite of what I'm saying. A lot of marines drag wounded/dead marines to medbay. When the Rasputin lands, and the bodies are being hauled off, as a time saving feature, the cards would allow players without medical huds know who you need to drag to medbay yesterday and who can be left because they're dead or napping.

You could also just feel their neck? This feels like a light to moderate amount of work to implement that can already be done simply in game right now.

I'll leave it to the devs for now.

You mean stop and count their pulse? What I'm talking about allows for immediate assistance. But checking pulse doesn't differentiate between wounded and SSD.

Hell, it's not like another item needs to be added. You can work it so that it's a secondary function of a health analyser, hit z and have the option to print out the cards.

You can right click examine then to tell if they are SSD, thats how.

I like the idea, I just can also see it being abused by a shitler medic.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

Yea, I know this. You can also shift click to examine. I made this suggestion because stopping and examining every marine until you find one to haul to medbay takes a while and the person you grab might not be as seriously injured as another person.

it can be cool, but the real collors and their applications are (from the less to the most important) :
- Green : PTSD or slightly injured person, able to move and heal themselves
- yellow : Injured people, slowed by their wounds (or person with broken bones/damagedinternal organs with no danger of crit)
- Red : Highly injured person, unable to move and/or stabilise themselves (or infested)
- Black : KIA (or, in a multiple victim situation, KIA and unconscious)

In a normal situation (about 1medic/wounded), you start treating the wounded from red to green. In a several victim situation (at least 2/3 victim per medic), you start from green to red, because you want to save the highiest ammount of people you can (yes it's horrible)

There's also black color code for the dead and dying, though with magic baymeds no one might actually be in an unrecoverable state with a stasis bag.

+1, too many times have marines just tossed live bodies and dead bodies together because it took too much time to sort out bodies at each new junction of casualty movement (Frontlines> FOB> dropship> Hanger > medbay. any where in that chain, marines can make major mistakes moving casualties that should have been diagnosed at the first stage of response) If you see a large color card on the body, it makes it easy for marines to quickly take care of troops, which is good both for game theme and game play.

I'd like to see it include labels as to what treatment the marine needs as well(broken bones, infected, organ damage). It will help organize medbay and keep surgery moving faster.

Idea: there are already armbands that can be put on your uniform (can be spawned from the /obj list at least) so why not just put them in medic storage? no extra coding required, just a few resprites of the armband that already exists (red) Slap an armband on your patients uniform, and you're good to go.

+1 to this. Nubs's idea seems to be reasonable enough to implement, but I don't know how to code in DM
