Snipers: Amazing or Awful?

Post by Sneakyr » 16 Jan 2017, 04:06

Are marksmen rifles worth the time and effort? What are the pros and cons? Is there a specific load out or technique to make them more effective? If so, I'd like to know.

Not worth it, they don't kill runners in one hit (just like slugs) and generally can miss sometimes, which is annoying, the only real "good" one is the incendiary magazines, which can set shit on fire, too bad most xenos just shake it off and run off before it has much effect, if you want to recon, just grab some binoculars.

Sniper's a shit, but it's a decent counter to boilers(though rail scope can also do that job).

Scoped M4 is better.

That said, xenos don't fully realize how shit the sniper rifle is and still get intimidated by it. Use it as a terror weapon.

Follow the Marines. Often they stand you in the line of fire or bothering to aim. Warn about the shooting in advance.

Personal two cent here:

If you truly want to play sniper, be extremely careful as to act as support and to use your ADDITIONAL ACCURACY (The thing that gives an edge to the weapon) to finish off ennemies instead of engaging them.

You're the eyes of your team and they're/their cover. If one of your guys is being abducted and YOU KNOW YOUR TIMING (Essential, otherwise FF), then you will even hit that one alien dragging your teammate away, securing his escape by providing him cover and scaring the alien that took him (Except if it's a crusher, then you're pretty useless in most scenarios if you don't burn it)

So yea, that's about it. Remember that the loadout especially makes you weak in close quarter (80% of the fights if you're not organized) and as some said, it's more of a terror weapon that puts a big marker on your head rather than an actual good-quality weapon. An M4A1 or especially a marksmen rifle will do your job a tad if not a lot better since it can fire more with around the same damage and a good close quarter accuracy.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

I can never get a clear line of fire as a sniper. There is always someone in my way.

In my personal opinion the Sniper, as with the B18 is situational, and operational success depends on the skill of the user, whereas the more commonly used Spec guns require minimal knowledge on robusting techniques and take next to no time to manage expertly.

Snipers are a huge help when I'm trying to push and there's a shit ton of darkness, mostly because they can end my misery with one shot, but otherwise they'll put a Young Hunter to half health. Essentially, if it's that powerful chances are you need to have people pull out xenos from the darkness while also damaging it before you take that shot. I guess this is for emphasising the importance of teamwork and using social cues over just randomly taking shots.

They're good against Crushers (I think) but when you're on the run, you're better off switching to that shitty handgun (that you won't use).
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

When in doubt, just fire through the marines. When I use a sniper, most times I'll fire a shot to the side of someone to make 'em shit their self, then wait 10 seconds and if they don't move, I just ignore them. I've only FF'd once with the M42 because of this.

Seems like it would be a good idea to carry two m41a's. One equipped with a scope for long range, and another for short range.

OVER-RULED.

The Court recognizes Apophis' extremely amazing sniper abilities in which there are never any friendly causalities.

Playing as a sniper requires EXTREME precision as all your bullets count.

ESPECIALLY THE AT-RIFLE!

Nothing more to say.

I can probably outsnipe anyone here. Snipers are excellent but the main danger is in getting tunnel vision and only looking at your targets. You have to remember to glance way back down at your own sprite to make sure nobody has ran up right in front of you. This is a danger using any scoped weapon and is the frequent cause of friendly fire -- simply not looking close enough to see if someone's snuck up unaware that you're zoomed out.

Maybe a good idea would be a zoom icon above a person's head when they are using a scope?

Either way when using sniper or marksman you should be a) capable of being on the outskirts of a force relatively alone and b) able to use lighting and terrain to your advantage to keep yourself from getting flanked.
