PSA for Xenos: Ventcrawling

Post by Halinder » 25 Jan 2017, 07:37

So, with the recent change to vents being pathways and not just points to warp to for xenos, they now have their own environment.

If a vent doesn't warn you about being too cold or too hot, then it's got a pretty balanced environment and going through it won't really have any effect on you.

If the vent says it's too hot, get out. It WILL kill you within the minute. This is pretty rare since you'd basically have to sabotage atmos to overheat the distro supply, although scrubbers are almost always overheated (don't be shy to check, though).

The really interesting one is when a vent is too cold. This won't hurt xenos at all no matter how long they're traveling inside, BUT! Going through a vent/scrubber after devouring the host will subject the host to the environment of the piping. This will cause immense amounts of damage in a relatively short period of time and, if the host doesn't die in transit, they probably won't survive long enough to produce a larva. Their equipment doesn't seem to matter, so even marines with full snowgear are subject to this.

tl;dr: When going into a vent, environment matters. Too hot will kill you. Too cold won't kill you but it will kill devoured hosts. Balanced environments are fun for the whole family.

Also as a sidenote, watch out for explosives when inside piping. If for any reason the pipe you're inside explodes, you won't be knocked out of the pipe; you just get deleted from the game.

Good to know. as a xeno i was always too scared to go through 'too cold' vents because i thought they harmed xenos as well.
My first (and likely only medal)
