This is my feeling as well. Are there any references to the the later movies in CM? I only see them drawing on the comics, Alien, and Aliens.

I think that CM's thematic moments are SO good because CM takes the exciting parts of the Alien series and has you experience them. You know what it feels like to have aliens surrounding you as your team is dragged off one by one.
