Vent Superheating
As a moderately competent MT, you can superheat vents. I usually use burnmix from the atmos waste tank, but you can bump up the cooler temp, wait for a few minutes, and use the engine hot loop as well. Both processes take about 3-5 min.
There are 4 separate loops on the ship- Upper and lower vents and scrubbers. Upper scrubbers are superheated if the engine is setup. Upper vents and lower vents can be superheated by having one canister of above 200-300C gas hooked in. Lower vents are on by default, and need more gas, just check the meters until it's above 300C (though normally, you'll be at 9001C or something absurd if you use burnmix.
Doing this on all 4 vents PERMANENTLY BLOCKS OFF ALL VENTS TO ALL XENOS.
FOREVER.
No fireproof ones can ventcrawl, and it'll kill them very quickly. Do this when you have a sabotage-ventcrawler and it'll die very quick once it discovers it can't get out.
Added bonus- Use burnmix. Burn all the phoron out. Hook the WASTE TANK directly to distro by laying pipes. Do not weld any vents. Atmos tries to refill rooms with pressure below normal. If the rasp hits topside, and that setup's in, and it breaches, any ayy that tries to use the breach to kill 'rines will superheat the room he's in, and probably all adjacent rooms, if the vent's are unwelded.
This is also near-impossible for non-observant staff to tell (go look at the atmos room, if you see a pipe leading there if you get reports of high temps, someone read this).
This seems WAY too strong and kinda abusive, but it is currently allowed, mostly because few know how to use it.
Discuss.

Re: Vent Superheating
Not telling people how to do this would solve the problem in and of itself.
And considering once Xenu get on the Sulaco you're either boned or you'll sweep them up quickly, it seems fair to me.

I can understand some restriction is required here, but removing the ability to do this completely seems saddening. I have no idea what said restriction may be, this is just my opinion.

Re: Vent Superheating
Nope, even with a breach. One canister will be spread around enough/sucked out of the breach/remain in the system long enough to "dilute", that it won't kill, even in one room (and will ONLY leave the vents in case of a pressure drop, and due to the temp increase, will IMMEDIATELY peg pressure above 101kpa, stopping it until drained more).coroneljones wrote:Superheating vents

Unless you're like me and connect the ENTIRE, non-phoron-mix burntank to the distro. Which means that if the Rasp hits topside, any ayys trying to exploit the breach get ROASTED. 'rines have issues too, but it's actually better than dealing with the breach (Burn vs Brute).

I dont really see an issue with it as long as Xenos get a warning before entering a vent.
Kinda unfair that they have no warning or advance notice that this shit is hot.

You should be able to exit the vent before dying unless you moved very far in it without realizing that you taking damage.
Xenos get a warning before entering the vents i.e You feel a searing heat! It's even in red bold text.

You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

The main issue I see is that this makes breached rooms unlivable to ayys as well as 'rines.
I have no problem with this, but it seems pretty strong with a decent engineering team.
Oh, and it's not an instakill on going in a vent, just kills before you can leave, whoever asked that.

From my time as a xeno during this, it wasn't the case. I only took damage from the air for about the first 10 minutes afterwards, nothing happened. Even when the air was still superheated, I could still heal by hugging the weeds right next to the breaches.Jroinc1 wrote: The main issue I see is that this makes breached rooms unlivable to ayys as well as 'rines.

The main problem you encounter from this is the t1s and t2s that still go inside the vents despite the warnings. If no one goes inside, then it's no difference from welding the vents. My opinion on superheated vents is that I'm going to wait patiently for acid so I can (try to) kill the MTs that did it.

I personally strongly dislike this, Anyone doing this is going to subject to some close investigation, I've already talked to jronic about doing it at roundstart without a damn good reason (One of the rounds there were giant spiders in the vents...Kinda a good reason to potentially render large parts of the sulaco unlivable)

Re: Vent Superheating
Personally I see phoron nightmares and any atmo fuckery as fair game if it's done during the boarding. If a competent engineer also connect the phoron mechanism to the main system for distributing to the entire ship i'm fine with it as long as they're on their last straw.
Why? Because generally speaking, even if players fuck an entire deck and atmo, survivors and people with a good reaction speed can try to dive away and reach the lower level to avoid dying. Same goes for opposite. I would personally even like it if engineers were playing smarter and using the game mechanics more, because in general I looove the idea that you can use your smart to overcome skills and/or brute force.
Self-destruct system when?

CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

Re: Vent Superheating
Can't connect phoron without a LOT of mods, and my mix is just hot air, without any unburned phoron. I actually did build a self-destruct system that round. It dumped 30,000C air into the core. Didn't have to use it, though.Sarah_U. wrote:Personally I see phoron nightmares and any atmo fuckery as fair game if it's done during the boarding.

I have.
It's not instant, but when it happens, your health will tick down suprsingly fast. You'll die if you're in a superheated vent more than 6 seconds or so.
Here kitty, kitty, kitty. Meow. Here, Jonesy.
