First Encounter "Roleplay"
Something that I've noticed across many rounds and takes me personally out of any immersion is the way that some marines treat the first sighting of the aliens. Commonly people will treat them as pets or harmless animals and pet/poke them and say things like "oh it's kind of cute" etc. Like, I think that people need to keep in mind that you're staring down this creature http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/ali ... 1005001209 and I'm fairly sure most marines wouldn't just let their guard down and put away their guns. I'm find with some minor dismissal such as "Oh that's just the local wildlife" but take one look at that fucker and you should feel terror in your pantaloons, I mean the Xenomorph was designed to be a horror movie monster not some cuddly lizard or bug or whatever you RP call it.

Re: First Encounter "Roleplay"
Yeah immersion wise its pretty shattering. Though you can chalk it up to marines of the Sulaco being insane.
Yeah xenomorphs are pretty terrifying. You'd have to be pretty fucked up or stupid to let your guard down around one. Especially when you are responding to a distress becon only to discover that all the colonists vanished... Let's be honest here wildlife ain't an excuse when it comes to alien worlds. I'd imagine the USMC responded to wildlife mauling colonists at least a couple dozen times before.
Don't forget these things have metal teeth too.
I do find the "oh look local wildlife" line pretty funny. Its like being sent to investigate a village going silent, seeing blood everywhere and a bunch of grizzly bears. With your response being "harmless wildlife here" you what mate?
Though at the end of the day its just a game. And it's something people do to avoid meta even though its pretty reasonable to assume that the dangerous looking creatures lurking in the dark may be the cause of all the blood and corpses.

Re: First Encounter "Roleplay"
I'm doing it to give the Xeno's a chance to have an interaction as well.
The one thing I always disliked about this game was the enforcement of RP during antag encounters. The idea being that when an antagonist revealed themselves the correct thing to do was try to RP your way out of a sticky situation when in reality what happened was you got half way to typing "Don't shoot I'm just a doctor" before he shot you in the face without saying a word.
The same thing happens here. In certain occasions there have been neat and unique RP interactions between Xenos and Marines or Marines and Preds. Sometimes it's not an RP interaction but the Runner has scouted and the marines have followed and gained some information back. In my minds eye it beats hearing something go bump in the dark, or a blur whizzing past you and emptying an entire mag into it.
Also, I was checked for using the line "There are some creatures here that look vicious, like natural killers" because it's powergaming apparently.

That's surprising honestly, like I just feel like this argument could be summed up entirely with "who'd be friendly towards this?" and just show a picture of a xenomorph. I understand why marines hold fire at first but the aliens shouldn't play along with first encounter "RP" either because they aren't playful aliens. Xenos serve the Queen which is essentially a hivemind, as such I really doubt they'd wave and dance at marines.

I always say the larva look cute if that's the first thing I see because I mean just look at the cute little guys. Though I do have a problem of shooting first

I don't like first encounter because I've been treated badly before by it ;~;

Re: First Encounter "Roleplay"
i was a marine and saw a beta marine protecting a larvae that just bursted out of his teammate because it was "cute"
i considered him clinically insane and gave him a good dosage of metal medicine that quickly woke him up from his delusion of having a pet larvae as well as ending its life
he had to spend 10 minutes explaining to a combat medic why he had a broken chest and the medic only gave him tramadol and told him to pester the doctors instead
that was the closest thing i came to "first encounter" RP

Re: First Encounter "Roleplay"
heh...there was a time in pre alpha where my squad defended a larva because we didn't know it was with the aliens.THey said they wouldn't let us bring it aboard so we disobeyed orders and stayed on the Nostromo.Turns out the alien told the Queen not to attack us and that we were friends. We snuck the larva on board and hid it in our prep room.My entire squad got dragged out, handcuffed and beaten. They killed the larva in front of us and swirled us all to death. Some guy cloned me and I got my sweet revenge on the commander.Swagile wrote:i was a marine and saw a beta marine protecting a larvae that just bursted out of his teammate because it was "cute"

You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Re: First Encounter "Roleplay"
There was one time, as SL, we found a group of lill' larvas on the Western caves before our first encounter with the Aliens.
As the cool guy Heering Is, His squad and him decided to bring them aboard to the Sulaco, some escaped, but there was One AFK. At least we thought so.
We reach the Researcher and he decides to lockdown It on the secured room, the Commander and his staff came In to kill the Larva, but when they reached us, It was too late.
One minute later, turns out the Larva was Feweh/Admin, but the way It showed us wasn't "Cool."
From nowhere, that Little larva becomes an ancient Queen In 5 minutes, destroying RdS and escaping with Jesus Powers. The Marines had to fight her until morgue, where she finally died after killing at least 8 Marines
