Ammo Supply Crates

Post by Mycroft Macarthur » 23 Feb 2015, 04:27

Suggestion Title: Ammo Supply Crates

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): crates in the squad armories filled with large quantities of ammo, these can then be taken to fobs

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): this would make marine gameplay slightly more convenient by reducing our need to split up and return to the sulaco every time we need ammo

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): this would be really simple i think, essentially this is just a crate in the squad armory crammed with multiple boxes or magazines of every ammo type, when sent to the nostromo marines could take this crate with them to the FOB, marines could then resupply at the fob itself and stay there for greater periods (combined with good medics marines could then hold positions MUCH more easily), as it is right now save for standards you can run through your ammo REALLY quickly, its amazing how fast those 30 round magazines can empty and the moment you begin to run low, right now you just have to go back to the sulaco and get more.

we almost never leave in groups or in two or three man teams so this increases the odds we'll get picked off or disobey orders from our SL's since we now have an excuse to leave, we just cant be as effective with little ammo, i mean i guess we can do this already by getting a crate or closet and just vending all the ammo from one of the machines but it takes FOREVER to do and in that time your squad can EASILY have lost their position, time they spend with at least one less marine at that since you had to leave to GET the ammo in the first place (this also assumes you dont just get ambushed on the way back), standards have it abit easier since they can carry lots of extra in their belt (but not speed loaders for some reason) but typically they only have enough for themselves and even THEN there are no guarantees they have a compatible ammo type, you damn well better believe the standard with the shotgun isnt packing any spare 9mm's for your SMG and the engineer with the m41a has no 7.62's for your SAW, sure most of us will carry revolvers as well but that doesn't necessarily mean we have alot of speed loaders since they're really more of a sidearm anyways (and AGAIN, they dont fit in marine belts, only marine armor, backpacks and pockets)

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): basically this just needs to have a crate filled with ammo added to each squad room, the items in question already exist in the game, no special coding of any kind is necessary.

Setting up a FOB should be rare as its a recon mission, only after you have recon the situation you should set up a fob, Also as a soldier of the Canadian armed forces myself i can assure you soldiers do not take ammo crates on recon missions, They use ammo bags lol.

well we dont have ammo bags either, i mean being able to carry duffel bags with a shit ton of extra slots could work out, i understand in real life we often have people in a squad whose designated job it is to carry extra ammo for everyone else and if these were either a surgical kit or a backpack in terms of item slots i could imagine it working out, its kind of like a tradeoff since you cant use any two handed weapon anymore till you ditch the bag (meaning your stuck with revolvers, pistols and SMG's till you set up somewhere and ditch the bag) so it would be like a tactical choice to help out your squaddies.

A way to get around this right now is to grab 8 marine belts, fill them all with ammo, and throw them in a backpack, same result with no extra coding!

in itself that would be okay but it would still take an obscenely long time to actually vend the ammo in question, put it in the belts, put them in the pack and then remove it from the belts when on site, not to mention we would need alot of extra marine belts just to do this, the point of the suggestion was to cut down on such tedium and make it quicker and easier for marines to resupply.
