A PSA for COs on briefing times.
STOP MAKING BRIEFINGS AT 12:25 OR HIGHER
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2k0SmqbBIpQ
Look, I know that, metawise, marines shouldn't know what is down there. But at the same time, no one likes having to wait upwards to HALF AN HOUR to deploy and get started. Both marines and Xenos hate it. For marines, it gives xenos more of an advantage evolutionwise and also is really boring to sit in briefing waiting when everyone got their weapon mods by 12:19 or less. For Xenos, they get just as bored when there are no marines to stalk, which more than not results in xenos more quickly rushing at the marines upon landing due to there being no threats till about 12:35 planetside.
Holding back the round for so long is annoying as hell and it has to stop. As much as marines love their weapon mods, they aren't that important, we don't need every SINGLE marine to get his attachments before starting briefing. It isn't like the dropship is never coming back, the late joiners will still be able to join their squads on the ground and be briefed by their SLs and BOs. So please, just get briefing started no later than 12:20 and lets get our rounds started, righto?

Honestly I would rather make my marines deploy instantly while im giving orders over comms, while im telling them that the rasp is lifting off at 12:10. There it would at least be more fair for both sides to put up a fair fight.

I almost feel marines could be gone at 12:15
Briefing is usually similiar everytime and a lot of marines miss it and the SL's tell them the orders anyways. Attachments aren't that important.

I really agree with this, i see constantly briefings at 12:20, and then they last for so long that we actually deploy by 12:30, and one round, marines didin't even deploy untill 13:10, survivors already suicided by 12:43

Being a survivor and trying to live a half an hour or more while ever xeno is hunting for you is hell.

That there, is metagaming. Why would you want to rush briefings in the first place? Fear of seeing hives in the Colony? Fear of having no Colonists to extract information from? METAAAGAAAAAAYYYYYMMMEEEEEE. Huehuehue.

Re: A PSA for COs on briefing times.
As SL I always complain about briefings.
Not because I have to sit still and stare at nothing for half an hour.
No, its because only one or two people listen to the briefing; guess what, im one of those people.
And who does everyone ask "what are we doing today"? Me.
A more time effecient, and less shitty way of deploying would just be to tell all the SL's what we are doing via Command channel, or heck, even Announce it via the Communications computer so that all the SL's (and those with working eyeballs) know whats going on. There, done in 1 minute or less, and everyone is down to do their job.

12:17 works pretty well in my experience. Just use the time you stand there to evaluate which squad gets what jobs because the people that's there could probably vaguely pretend to follow orders.
Troublesome, as usual.

You just received an automatic distress Beacon from a Weyland-Yutani colony. You don't know if it's space pirates, rebels, or worse. Of course you'd want to get down there and save as many civilians as possible.Caryl wrote:That there, is metagaming. Why would you want to rush briefings in the first place? These pretty much.
After spending several weeks traveling to the planet, by the time you arrive, you should be able to deploy at a reasonable time. The average marine eating time is only a few seconds per marine, and the act of kitting up with the basic stuff is a really quick matter unless you are a medic, who probably have the longest preparation time of the bunch if they want to customize their lifesaver bags contents. Other than that, everyone else can kit up quite quickly.
The only thing that takes time is cargo distributing weapon mods, which many marines obsesses over to the point of rushing it as soon as possible so they can get their personal mods before anyone else (or to get their hands on the hard to get weapon mods). The thing is, though, weapon mods are secondary, so ensuring every marine HAS THEM isn't entirely important. If marines want to miss briefing over weapon mods, then so be it, they'll just have to ask their SL to catch them up. Miss deployment? They'll just take the next drop down to the FoB and wait for their squad to pick them up.
I can understand how it can be meta to not want to take too long to deploy, but at the same time, time is money, and you want to get the operation into motion as soon as you are able. For all you know, waiting an extra 5 minutes because billy and his friends didn't get their mods yet could result in defenseless colonist getting hurt or killed when you could have saved them.
There is a reason I choose 12:17-18 as my preferred time for briefing, because it strikes a good balance of ensuring marines have time to get ready and for us to get down to the ground to get our camp set up, because as I had experienced in the past, when xenos get bored, xenos tend to overspread, and when that happens, it is not fun for the majority, if not everyone, at all.
Keep in mind, I don't want to go TOO quickly, since the xenos need a chance too.. But I doubt they wanna be kept waiting either. The sooner we get deployed (at a reasonable time), the sooner we can get to the salty fun.
