I think CM has started to grow to the point where we might want to consider unlisting the server from the byond list. We've hit the point where the community has grown enough to live on its own, and now hipop is starting to get a little too populated. Almost every big public server hits a point where they can sustain themselves on their own(bay, goon, paradise) and go unlisted to cut down a bit on the stream of new players. I think doing so could facilitate higher quality players, and lighten the admins workload a ton by cutting down on random griffers and people who haven't read the rules. I'm curious to hear the community/adminteam's views on this.
Also we'll see less rounds that have the marines looking like this.

Re: Unlisting the Server
I like highpop, lots of action, lots of people. Unlisting creates, in my opinion, a much less friendly welcome to newcomers (we're already not overly friendly to baldies), and I'd be sad to see people shunned after a month or two of not really getting any new new people.

Re: Unlisting the Server
Hipop starts to get too chaotic and makes marines and xenos much less coordinated in my opinion. I used to love playing at peak hours when hipop was considered 80 players, but now hipop numbers push 130. As for the point about hostility I don't think it necessarily will create that environment. My primary server was /vg/ before coming here and they were the epitome of a private server, they never advertised anywhere and keep to themselves. Yet if you come in as a new player ready to learn 90% of players would teach you the game mechanics. If anything I think making the server private would make people more welcoming to baldies, as they will deal with them a lot less and get less frustrated.NoahKirchner wrote:I like highpop, lots of action, lots of people. Re: Unlisting the Server
I am torn, on one hand, hi pop gets a little TOO crazy for my tastes, and it is getting to the point where the game is overpopulated even from time to time.
On the other hand, this would create a lot of elitism within the community, and it will be even harder for newcomers to arrive.
Keep in mind for every 10 baldies you get at least 1 good player.
Another way to more easily remove chaos is to potentially enforce higher rp standards, though that may be a hassle.
I wouldn't mind delisting just for the summer during weekdays or something though. It is always insane during the summer.
I'm half asleep so apologies if any of this sounds odd.
