EoRG Message
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):Put a REALLY BIG DON'T EORG MESSAGE on the screen whenever the round ends, to make it a bit more easy to find (Also say to go read the rules maybe).
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):Less EoRG, less ban appeals about EoRG, less staff telling people to not EoRG in OOC, and less people getting banned for EoRG complications.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Have a message at round end that explains to not EoRG, and explains that any generation of combat logs is considered eorg, so new people don't instantly do it.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Some code.

If people can't read the BIG RED TEXT that tells them to read the server rules when they arrive at the server, I don't see how this will help either. It might make my job simpler though, so +1.

Re: EoRG Message
The MoTD says a lot more than "don't shoot", and requires you to click a link. Full disclosure, didn't read the rules for about a month after I started playing (learned afterwards that not having read the rules was also against the rules, but I never got asked if I did read the rules (but I would've just said yes I did anyways)), just because it was a lot to read. This would ensure that people know that this applies right now and gets you bant without a message.ZDashe wrote:If people can't read the BIG RED TEXT that tells them to read the server rules when they arrive at the server, I don't see how this will help either. Sadly common sense is in short supply nowadays, when people fail to understand what a medium RP server is. *le sigh*NoahKirchner wrote:((rules are mostly common sense anyways))

A much better way to say don't shoot each other at the end of the round.

Ignorance isn't an excuse. If you aren't going to read a general overview of rules when you join, we don't want you here if you are going to cause problems.

Re: EoRG Message
I am aware that ignorance isn't an excuse, but EORG is listed under griefing at the very end, it's rather easy to miss all things considered (Realistically, how often do you study and remember all of the rules the first time you join a server?) This would make it very clear, to baldies who maybe didn't click on the MoTD or people who missed/don't remember that tiny clause that EoRG is not allowed. Nothing wrong with making the rules easier to find, and there's no issue with making it easier to find.Snypehunter007 wrote:-1

This doesn't just help players who didn't read the rules, because in all fairness, they should have, but it also helps staff at the end of the round, meaning that they don't have to spam OOC with "STOP THE EORG!!!" and waste an extra few minutes to go through and ban everyone.

-1, I don't wanna be the "immersion guy" but if the point of not EORGing in the first place is to keep the immersion and feeling of victory, having a message come up like that would just break it too.
But that's just my opinion, it seems alright either way.

+1, some people who come here are people alike from many other different stations that are allowed to EoRG or newbies, EoRG is a rule that can easily be missed or forgotten due to how long your first time is most likely to be and with all the chaos.

Re: EoRG Message
People committing EoRG is very common amongst SS13 servers, to the point where its a accepted standard of SS13 games. There's entire comics and jokes made about people suddenly going nuts when the evac shuttle hits Centcom.
This idea will go a very long way in reminding people that CM bans for EoRG, which is something many people may have never encountered if they have never joined a high RP server.

Re: EoRG Message
Okay while this will cut down on EORG, it somewhat isn't the point to me. Maybe I'm being strict or a bit of an ass, but I have to believe that EORG is also the added benefit, of cutting out the shitters that were able to weasel around getting in trouble yet. The type of people who think it's okay to shoot their teammates and haven't read the rules. It's a little net that catches the shitters.

Re: EoRG Message
The rules are poorly written and formatted, it doesn't just catch people who didn't read the rules. EoRG falls under grief, and while it is an instant 3 hour ban with no appeal, it is tiny and under the examples of grief, the absolute least likely piece of information on that page to be read. You can't reasonably expect people to read through the rules thoroughly, it's like asking people to read every line on a terms of service. You can expect them to read the big, emboldened "DON'T META, DON'T GRIFF", but that EoRG rule is something that is primarily a high RP thing, something a lot of players navigating using only the hub would have never experienced. It's fun to shoot things at the end of ss13 rounds, and while it may not apply here because of "arrpee", people who pick up on the server recently, even if they read all the rules or just used common sense, aren't going to expect a rule which is present in nearly every other server on the hub, and especially for a relatively low rp server to the other kinds that would have this rule.TheMaskedMan2 wrote:Okay while this will cut down on EORG, it somewhat isn't the point to me. It also doesn't catch the shitters, they get banned for 3 hours, come back later and will shit up just as much. All it does is drive away new players. Sure they may have been shitters, but you can't assume that every new player who didn't read their rules is going to be shit. This is just going to make them not want to come back, when they can get instantly banned for 3 hours for no reason, the only description in their ban being "EoRG", which means nothing outside of hrp servers. If players are shitters, ban them for being shitters, but give new players a fighting chance. Or at the very, very least, don't have it be a super tiny clause under the griefing rule that nobody ever reads.

Re: EoRG Message
I think a large message within the beginning text that says "Hey! Do NOT EORG!" when you join the server would be good, but I feel spamming peoples screens with a giant reminder is giving them too much leeway, but maybe I just enjoy my end of round meditation too much.NoahKirchner wrote:The rules are poorly written and formatted, it doesn't just catch people who didn't read the rules. Re: EoRG Message
You can put it at the beginning, but you have to figure that the beginning is currently the most crowded of the spots. You've got the loading messages, the MoTD, then the whole marine blurb. The MoTD a lot of times gets pushed out of the way by the loading messages as it is, so some people don't even know that it exists (I hardly ever see it, I only ever see the rip Paxton part)TheMaskedMan2 wrote:I think a large message within the beginning text that says "Hey! Re: EoRG Message
+1 EoRG is so common that we can't just look at it as a way to "cut down on shitlers." It is rather unorthodox rule in SS13 that I almost don't blame new players for either being ignorant about it or forgetting to follow it. There are even many veteran players who have gotten punished for EoRG at some point, so a big red message addressing one of the most abused rules in this server would help cut down the amount of incidents that happen.

Re: EoRG Message
EORG is seen at the end of every round. A big red message may help, but if they ignore even that, would this lead to a debate of increasing EORG bantimes?
+1, but there's more discussion to be had about whether punishment for breaking the rule should be increased, if they're going to ignore a huge red message telling them not to.
