Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Since we have had a string of incidents where MP's have taken the Marine Law to the point of griefing, id like to introduce a similar clause to Marine Law that we have in the ACTUAL RULES.
Marine Law: The Law should be used in its intended function; in the spirit of the law. It should not be stretched in order to brig people for something that does not truly bring harm both short and long term to the ship.
Source:
Rule 0.1 RULES AS INTENDED. Just because you bend the wording of a rule into a pretzel and don't break the specific RAW (Rule As Written) does not mean you didn't break the RAI (Rule As Intended). Rules can be subject to interpretation and if a staff member that is a Mod or above believes you broke a rule as it is INTENDED to function, you can expect the same consequences.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Less dickhead MP's using any excuse to put you in for 10 minutes or more because you asked for legal drugs from a Doctor as a Combat Medic.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Read above.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Wiki update.

While I think the MPs were wrong, this could potentially allow for a lot more allowance of powergaming. I think a better solution would be to reword the drug rule to be illegal drugs.

Oxycodone is considered a illegal drug yet Combat Medics and Doctors use it, so people will rule lawyer that and arrest Combat Medics getting Oxycodone given to them as well despite the fact that Combat Medics and Doctors are qualified to handle it.NoahKirchner wrote:While I think the MPs were wrong, this could potentially allow for a lot more allowance of powergaming. Re: [MP] Rule Lawyering
Then claim "illegal" is defined as substances used for purely personal use with no (or very little) medical applications. This way you stop getting brigs full of drunken MPs too, because alcohol would also fall under this rule. Oxycodone, when used for medicinal purposes, wouldn't be illegal I'd think anyways. If you're dealing it then maybe.Swagile wrote:Oxycodone is considered a illegal drug yet Combat Medics and Doctors use it, so people will rule lawyer that and arrest Combat Medics getting Oxycodone given to them as well despite the fact that Combat Medics and Doctors are qualified to handle it.

That sounds alright, I just feel its stupid we have to keep changing these laws when people should just follow the spirit of the law, not following it literally then hiding behind it when following it literally griefs people.NoahKirchner wrote:Then claim "illegal" is defined as substances used for purely personal use with no (or very little) medical applications. You will inevitably have to change laws as the game changes. Rules and roleplay guidelines too. It doesn't really happen though, unfortunately.Swagile wrote:That sounds alright, I just feel its stupid we have to keep changing these laws when people should just follow the spirit of the law, not following it literally then hiding behind it when following it literally griefs people.

Re: [MP] Rule Lawyering
I like the idea of reigning in "MUH LAW" guys but really I think any way, including this one, can be brushed off as "what is classified as stretching/harm/long & short term" etc. Maybe not, but I don't know.
Also, it seems from Noah's comments that this was based off of a particular incident. I haven't had the chance to be on the forums or play recently, so may I get a link or a brief rundown? If I find it myself before then I'll edit this.
EDIT: Found it.
