Quick little realism check

Post by mobman111 » 15 Apr 2017, 12:33

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Ear splitting guttural roar will not work in a vacuum, the science behind it is because their is no air in a vacuum and therefore nothing for the sound to travel along. I've asked ingame

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): In vacuums, xenos will have a fighting chance. It also makes the game a bit more scientifically realistic.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): If an ear splitting guttural roar is emitted in a 40KPa or less environment, you'd still see the shaking and the emitting sprites, however you wouldn't be affected by it. Anyone near still wouldn't be affected by it.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): If atmospheric pressure is extremely low, I'd say about 40KPa or lower, then the ear splitting guttural roar would not work, you'd still see the guttural roar happen, but it wouldn't affect.

Not like they would need to do that since everyone is most likely dead already from the pressure but whatever. +1

AGain they would already be dead even with spacesuits since they would get easily rendered to shreds.

I like this idea, but most of the time the game is in pressured areas. Very rarely in a round will there be vacuums unless someone breaks the rules or the coding messes up. However, if there is all the marines will either leave the room or die from it anyway.

Most people can't use spacesuits, and if they do get access to spacesuits their most likely going to flee the station instead of going into an alien infested room. I'm going to go with a -1. I love realism in game, but this doesn't occur enough for it to be added to the game. If this starts happening more often then I'll change my answer, but I'm staying with my vote for now.

Eh, fair enough. It happened today in a game and several people died from it.

It's a psychic scream or whatnot. Either way, it's not really set up to do deal with low vacuum and audible sounds. Denied for now.
