Maintenance Technicians

Post by StaticVariable » 18 Apr 2017, 14:05

I just started playing yesterday and so far had a lot of fun, dying mostly, playing as a maintenance technician.

What exactly should the MTs do in the game? I mean once the round starts, most of them fix the engine and then engineering remains empty, along with metal and plasteel materials.

Who do the MTs report to and can marines or other personnel boss them around. What is the policy on giving material to other personnel. And what should MTs do if they see other people raiding their supply closets?

What do MTs know how to do ICly, and is there some guide on the engineering equipment, aka portable generators, air scrubbers, gas tanks etc. Do they know, or need to know how to lay wires, pipes etc. Do they know how to fix the rooms/hull in case there is EM breach or any other emergency?

Is there a guide on how the interface and commands work. I.e. I was trying to fix a broken reinforced window, but for the life of me could not figure out how to move the window tile onto the grill tile, I was able to unscrew the window but the glass would not go back on the grill.

What do you think makes a competent and useful MT in the game?

I've seen MTs get permission to go to the planet and work on FOBs. You should also be working with marine engies and cargo to supply them with materials.

MTs report to the Chief Engineer, and work in the Engineering department, east side of the Sulaco ship.
Read the wiki wiki/Maintenance_Technician
MTs basically know how to build everything. They're supposed to repair the Rasputin windows, clean the ship, repair broken lights. Follow orders from Command and the CE (such as installing cameras on the Pod and Rasputin dropship). It's a relatively slow paced job, after the engine is set up.

Check the wiki, specifically the guide to construction. You can't move the window onto a grille, you have to build the grille and the window on top of it at the same time. It's a bit clunky, yeah.

From what I've gathered, Engineering departments main job is to keep the Sulaco and it's transports in one piece. I think they also double as Janitor's since cleanliness is a part of maintenance. Command and maybe the Chief Engineer can also send them down to help build fortifications at the FOB, but expect to be sent back up to the Sulaco when your job is done.
