Unoccupied xeno body waiting time

Post by Zokkie » 23 Apr 2017, 14:00

Summary: When a xeno player ghosts/quits a waiting time is set on his body which prevents other players from taking over the xeno body immediately. This waiting time can take up to around five minutes I think (and is also seperate from the timer that checks how long you are dead). This is way too long and I suggest reducing it to maybe 60 seconds or less.

Benefits: People that are eligible to play xeno can now play xeno without some unnecessary waiting time caused by another player that had no intention to play in the first place.

Details: I have noticed in plenty of rounds where people were already dead for 5+ minutes and really wanted to join as a xeno. Luckily a lot of larva’s hatched, but all of them simply ghosted. I don’t really understand why people need to wait another five minutes on top of their original wait time because somebody forgot to turn off their preferences and had no intention of playing in the first place.

At the moment this specific waiting time only prevents people joining that actually want to play the game. This timer should of course remain to prevent people taking over because of an accidental disconnect, but five minutes seems way too long. Also people that need to go AFK real quick can simply leave the game running, because there is a 10 minute timer I think before the game logs you off for inactivity.

Implementation: Reduce waiting time on unoccupied xeno bodies from players that have ghosted/quit to 60 seconds for example.

-1. 5 minutes is a perfectly reasonable time and if X player was never intending to return then 5 minutes is an acceptable waiting period.

-1, Sometimes a Xeno has to do something irl and while I understand the 5 minute wait time can seem extreme---sometimes that's what it takes. If you've been working hard to level up a crusher to something like, Mature Crusher then need to step outside irl for a few minutes---it'd be annoying to come back and see your hard work is being used by someone else.

I think the timer is the right amount for what it is.

This.

Some people can't spend a solid 3 hours on one round and sometimes have to go somewhere/do something important, which is understandable seeing as how everyone has a life apart from CM.

+1, but change it to 2 min.

Byond time is LONGER than normal time, and that's near to 4 real-time minutes, I believe.

I mainly made this suggestion because I saw people joining as larva and then ghosting straight away. I wouldn't mind if the five minute timer remained for all xeno's, except larva.

Also as I said earlier in my post you can stay afk for I think 10 minutes (correct me if I am wrong) which is twice as long as the timer I suggested to reduce if you leave your game on. but if you guys can't leave the game on I understand why you would not want this removed.

If the player ghosts she can't go back and others still have to wait to occupy the body. Once I thought I have to leave so I ghosted then a couple minutes later came back and the timer was running.

I agree. 5, 10, 50, 100, 1000 quantities are always very inaccurate and imbalanced. Avoid it.

Actually, it'd be good if it was only for when people ghost out. Otherwise -1.

If a player intentionally ghost out, well it's their bad. If they GOT GHOSTED then that's another matter.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

I agree. This should only be for ghosted players.

Exactly. Hell, there are douchebags that even ghost and then join as that same xeno they ghosted from, we need to shorten the timer on that shit. +1
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

I'd lower the overall for ghosted, but larva would get a super reduced timer when ghosted.

A system like:
Larva: 1 minute
T1: 2 minutes
T2: 2 minutes (?)
T3: 3 minutes

+1 but only for players who ghost, not players who log out.
