Summary: In order to even start the Self Destruct Sequence, you first have to raise the alert to Red Alert. Then successfully send out a Distress Beacon and then wait for the ERT to arrive. Then you have to start the Evacuation Procedure, then wait for all eleven escape pods to launch individually one or two at a time. THEN you can finally run over and start the self destruct seqence. Right now it can take ten to twenty minuets just to start the self destruct, then another twenty minutes to arm the self destruct.
My suggestion is to lower the Self Destruct to around ten minutes.
Benefits: Firstly this would make the self destruct move viable, right now Marines are getting away with it due to people not knowing where the Self Destruct room is, but once that becomes common knowledge we'll see self destructs happen very rarely. If you can defend the self destruct for twenty to forty minutes, you could've killed the attacking xenos.

I was the first guy with our new ship to order the self destruct. I was on Braddock man and when I ran to the self destruct room with my pmc escort I was stunned that it took twenty minutes. I remember telling the PMC IG that I needed it and it was like "no fucking way" and I managed to get the door welded. Surprised we even pulled that self destruct off last night. Should be around the 10 minute mark.

It's not supposed to happen every round. It's there only as a last resort, and requires a lot of hoops to go through. This is intended and this suggestion is denied.
