New Lore is Here
CM HAS NEW LORE
This was originally going to be packaged with the Almayer, but we felt the need to polish up the ship before releasing the lore that goes along with it. That has now changed. If you head to the WIKI, you will find updated information regarding the CM timeline, factions that exist, and the Almayer itself. The lore is still missing a few elements, but they will come as they are made ready. For now you will find that CM takes place in 2186. The USS Almayer is the "flagship" of the 2nd battalion of the 4th brigade, stationed in the Herculis arm, the third branch of the Marine Space Forces. The 2nd brigade has the moniker of the Falling Falcons, the specific background for this brigade will come later, and it is large enough to canonically contain all of the players in CM. Those who do not participate in a round may be stationed elsewhere or in cryosleep. The Almayer itself is a patrol vessel that doubles as a troop transport, able to respond when other craft may be unable to do so.
I want to give a big thanks to tophatpenguin for editing the wiki with all of the new information and generally being a cool guy, and of course the fine people on the dev team who contributed information, ideas, and writing to make this a reality.
You can use this topic to request further information about the world, note any consistency issues, or give whatever commentary you may have. Enjoy.

I wouldn't change them just yet. There is more to come regarding the 2nd battalion that people may find useful to include in their backstory.TopHatPenguin wrote:This is when we'll see everyone hurriedly change their Dossiers heh. Really good stuff from the dev team, keep it up chaps

Re: New Lore is Here
I think briefings will be a bit more interesting now that we have some lore to work off of.
Back then, a lot of COs simply gave the "Oh, a colony sent out a distress, they probably burnt their toast" story, which was not quite what I expect to hear from a military group dedicated to protecting colonies. Now that we have some legit possible threats, COs can make for some more interesting explanations as to why a colony gone dark, other than just blaming the colony itself for being stupid.

Re: New Lore is Here
I think the whole reason they did that in the first place was because of how the situation was treated in the movie. The marines were super flippant about the events that went down at Hadley's Hope, even WITH Ripley there to tell them about the xenomorphs.Renomaki wrote:I think briefings will be a bit more interesting now that we have some lore to work off of.

Re: New Lore is Here
My idea to call the "Space merceneries" as "Freelancer" became canon, I have a tear in my eye.
So the USSR got cut from the lore? Sad, I liked the alt-history where the USSR survived into the future and got into a space cold war.
I also suggest we expand a bit on the United Americas and the United States

Re: New Lore is Here
They're the Aliens universe counterpart to the USSR. Since we are moving our universe closer with the new lore, it only makes sense we'd use the UPP in that role.LordLoko wrote:Yeah but before it was the literal USSR formed in 1917 and not an expy
One of our main focuses is to make them a lot more fleshed out. I think, because the IB were so shallow, a lot of people just reverted to RPing them as hyperslavic goons.
Since the UPP is not really russian (only partially), I'm hoping we'll see a lot less memery and maybe people will take them seriously.

How do the xenomorphs get from planet to planet? Do they just supermam over there or do they hijack ships? (Xeno PO, anyone?)

Re: New Lore is Here
There are many ways of transportation for the Xenomorphs. In Many cases, they're caused by the crashing of Ancient Engineer vessels that contained biological armaments, Weyland-Yutany experiments, Hunting grounds which were discarded by the Council of Elders, etc.Sneakyr wrote:How do the xenomorphs get from planet to planet? I Assume we aren't replacing these.

Does the section about pissed off colonists-turned-terrorists imply that there's going to be a new game mode or admin event?

Re: New Lore is Here
The new lore seems to imply a lot of things, like being able to fit tanks and APCs in the dropships and the function of a wide array of weapons system.
Seems to be just for fluff but it looks cool nonetheless.

Re: New Lore is Here
On that note, what fate is to befall the Iron Bears and Dutch's Dozen?
I would imagine perhaps the IB would return to being a Mercenary group.
This makes me curious, are the UPP just being a more fleshed out ERT group or are they going to see a lot of content put behind them?

Re: New Lore is Here
DD's are just regular mercenaries, or Freelancers, and the IBs will not officially form until some years in the future. You may see some recycled equipment, but as groups they are unlikely to come back as they are non-canon.Steelpoint wrote:On that note, what fate is to befall the Iron Bears and Dutch's Dozen?

Re: New Lore is Here
Okay, now that makes more sense on why a medical researcher would be present on the ship. If a colony is having problems, the USCM ship has the available tools to help alleviate some small colony problems. Not every colony would have the ability to do full bio-analyzing if their was a bad disease going around, so it would make sense to have every uscm ship be a self contained city-in-a-can. I still want to be a W-Y employed researcher though:(
