Infected and Chestburting

Post by Davidchan » 04 Mar 2015, 00:44

So, I've been thinking about how the infection works, and how the movies, games and other media always portray the infection. And, for the life of me I can't figure out why we do the cycle the way we do. Specifically, the blacking out.

It drives me nuts. WHY do marines black out prior to bursting? Every single onscreen chestburst in the movies, the host was conscious from the point the facehugger let them go right up to the point of bursting. They were discomfort up to pain and agony with a ludicrous hunger going on, but none of them blackout prior to the bursting.

So why do people black out in the server, repeatedly, when they aren't getting any pain messages? I know it's something of a sign that you are about to burst, but the blacking out only serves to help the aliens, removes roleplay chances for the marine/infected and is generally just infuriating to deal with. I can take being dropped into pain crit and barely able to move, if at all, but to completely black out with no warning just seems excessive and a misguided attempt at hampering someone who already knows they are going to die.

I must say, black out is annoying, but you gonna have to deal with it sometimes, but trust me, sometimes you just can't, you just picked up a energy gun and about to shot that alien to dead, safe others and die a heroic death or etc? no thank you, black out instead for you, 1 is ok, but getting spammed with message you black out is….a bit annoying…especially when you break out, and then black out…and get re-nested and must wait 2 MINUTES to break out, oh and if you though you did not click it or it did not work and click again, You get 2 MINUTES 30 SECONDS, bursting takes about 10 minutes or so, at 5-8 minutes you start blacking out and the final 2 minutes is you keep getting hungry and for some reason, a random limb gets hurt.

And Clockwork, i don't think this is a suggestion since he is not suggesting anything yet, he is not saying "can we please remove blackout" he is simple asking " Why do we black out? that never happens in movies, games and etc" So yea….

He's SUGGESTING changing a game mechanic. So unless he is asking for thoughts, should be in the suggestion thread.

Please point out where did he said that he suggesting to change it?
This line Though might suggest it

""I know it's something of a sign that you are about to burst, but the blacking out only serves to help the aliens, removes roleplay chances for the marine/infected and is generally just infuriating to deal with. Trust me, it does look like a suggestion…

I was questioning the mechanic, if there is a legit reason for it being there, I'll let it be.

If it's just black out because it's always been black out, then I'll format a suggestion.

It's there to prevent rambo marines, you have somewhat 5 minutes of being awake after the infection. I say, you have plenty of time. This looks like a suggestion to me, however debate as much as you like, it's not going to change.
