Athena joined up around the time she was legally able to sign up as a way to avoid the life of being stuck in the slums of her home. Aspiring to be a doctor, she joined the USMC to become a medic and start her medical training there, intending to release once her term of service was done and undertake proper education as a doctor with the education options available post terms of service.
With her first deployment on the Almayer she was helped by Robert 'Caddy' Timmins to get the feel of the ship and the new command, and then came into her own after several drops as a successful medic. After a few incidents of learning the hard way, established herself enough to be jokingly told “I fear death a little less” when members of her squad see that she’s their medic. Trying her hardest to be able to keep any individual in the company on their feet and fighting just a little longer is a source of immense pride for her. Every downed Marine she claws back from deaths door is her motivation for keeping focused on her job.
In the rare cases of working with other newer medics she’s happy to help and offer advice to them, or to any of her other brethren while working with the Marines. Always of the attitude she can still learn a new thing, she’s happy to shop talk with others about their carry loads and equipment of choice to better learn how to keep just one more marine in the fight, if only a little longer.
